Hi
I have an issue whereby within each Album of the site I am building, each Gallery shows OK BUT the gallery thumbnal only shows a placeholder image, not the one selected in the Edit Gallery page.
Now, if you go to the page that shows ALL galleries the galleries have the thumbnail:
However, this is no good as once built I need to have the galleries wihtin albums as there will be quite a few. My web visitors will need to drill down through the albums to find their event gallery.
I have tried:
Switching to the WP TwentyFifteen theme
Trying various different Gallery templates
Loading via Bulk Uploader and manuall uploader
creating the gallery from uploads and from images already uploaded
Changing the default thumbnail image to a different one.
Disabling other plugins and trying again
Quite a few other things but lost track
As you can see I am at a loss. My client is desperate to go live with the website but I can’t upload the pending galeries until we sort this issue.
Your help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Philip
June 11, 2017 at 11:58 pm #75850adminKeymasterIt looks like there are mixed content on this site’s gallery page so the SSL is not working fully. That is preventing some images from loading I think. Did you use a mixture of HTTPS and HTTP images to create your galleries or use non-https image in other parts of the page? Its complaining about loading the [http://lorempixel.com/300/200/] image over non-https.
Do you have any caching solution on this site?
June 12, 2017 at 8:15 am #75851PeterMemberHi OpenFormula,
When I viewed your page earlier, you had two galleries listed on the “album2” page.
One of the galleries called “2017-05-27 Derby Hunter Trials” correctly displayed the thumbnail but the gallery called “55555” had a placeholder.
Also your main root albums page has one album which displays a correct thumbnail and two other albums which have placeholders.
Have you correctly set a thumbnail image for the albums called “album2” and “album3”? (ie, check the “Album Thumbnail URL” value in the album settings)
June 12, 2017 at 6:37 pm #75852OpenFormulaMemberThanks – sorry – been trying lots of other options and it is random when it works. having said that it is rare for it to work.
So sorry – wtill trying a few options as getting other issues such as the watermark on import stopping half way through and sometimes not importing images correctly, just leaving a grey image / placeholder on the main image!
Will try a few more loads and come back.
Seems very flakey! I was trying 500+ images but have since scaled back to about 90 and stll issues. Hold tight and will come back
Thanks
June 13, 2017 at 12:44 pm #75853PeterMemberHi,
issues such as the watermark on import stopping half way through and sometimes not importing images correctly…
Seems very flakey
Failures such as these are quite often caused by the server.
What type of hosting is your site on – shared, VPS, other?
What is the value of your server’s PHP memory_limit?
Can you please check your server’s PHP error log file? Look for any logs which are related to the photo seller and also logs which pertain to the server’s memory.
What is probably happening in your case is that sometime during the bulk import/watermarking process your server is running out of memory and hence the watermarking is failing at that point.
June 14, 2017 at 1:51 pm #75854OpenFormulaMemberHi
WATERMARK / PROCESSING FALLING OVER
So – we are on shared hosting with 1GB RAM limit. I have been working with the host company and they have increased to the max of 1.5GB. This has helped somewhat. If I try to import say, 200 images it falls over.
Since increasing the memory to 1.5GB I have now been able to upload in batches of less than 100 OK. So we have a sort of fix. However, I suspect many clients would be on shared hosting as VPS / personal servers are quite expensive! Surely it would be better to have the plugin throttle back and go at the pace of the system rather than just collapsing? Anyway, it works sort of for now!
REMAINING / MAIN ISSUE – Gallery thumbnails in Album
This is my main issue. I have now uploaded around 30 Galleries (as test and deleting the tests) and ONLY once has the thumbnail generated for the Gallery, within the Albums page:
Click into any Album and you will see the Gallery thumbnail is miissing. This looks pretty awful. i.e.
This is the last piece of work that is stopping the go live of the website so any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Philip
June 15, 2017 at 1:19 am #75855adminKeymasterEdit the album in question. Look at the following field:
Album Thumbnail URL
Do you have a valid image URL in there? What URL do you have there?
If you use the “Select Album Image” button to upload/select an image for that album then save it, does it not show that image when you go to the albums page?
June 15, 2017 at 11:53 am #75856OpenFormulaMemberHi – the issue isn’t the Album thumbnail as that works OK
It is the thumbnail of the Gallery within an Album page. i.e look at the page that shows all Albums and you can see the thumbnails all exist and look good!
However, if you click on one, say the Hargate Album, you see the thumnbails for all the Galleries within the Hargate Album only have the placeholder image, not the image selected for that gallery.
If I edit the gallery then I can see the option for the Gallery thumbnail OK. i.e. on the gallery edit page for the event on 2017-06-11 (gallery 43) I have selected Gallery Thumb ID:7150
Interestingly, if you look at the page that shows ALL galleries the thumbnail shows OK. However, this is no good as the point of Albums is to allow clients to filter down quickly to their event and find their images. Eventually there could be hundreds of galleries so clients won’t be able to find their event!
regards
Philip
June 15, 2017 at 12:30 pm #75857PeterMemberHi Philip,
I will send you an email to get login details from you so I can look into your issue more closely.
(note: I’m based in Australia and it’s late at night here now so I will look at this tomorrow)
June 15, 2017 at 11:38 pm #75858PeterMemberI sent you an email last night (Australian time).
June 17, 2017 at 7:57 am #75859OpenFormulaMemberThat’s brilliant Peter. Thanks for sorting so quickly – I really appreciate it
One happy customer!! If only I had the same quick resolution to the issues I had with the plugin I bought before this one that I had to give up on in the end!
jUST A quick question. Will the code change remain if there is a plugin update?
Cheers
Philip
