Hi,
I usually create sites with downloadable items. Recently I’ve been helping a client build a site that has physical items for shipment and delivery… and this has been a major learning curve. There’s one feature that would really be useful and I’d like to request (and it will probably also involve the eMember plugin too).
The idea is to provide a better view of “Order Process & Tracking”. At the moment, under the “Manage Customers” (and “View Details”) there’s not much information other than the status being “Paid”. It would be very useful to have the following statuses for physical products listed:
- Paid
- Processing
- Dispatched / Shipped
The ability to know where in the “after sales” process is extremely useful for shipping of physical items. For example, being able to filter out items that have just been purchased and now require to be boxed up, or if it’s been shipped, really is valuable information.
I know that with the help of the WP eMember plugin, it’s possible to display various output, such as what the customer has purchased. It would be even better if a customer could see the status of their physical item – if it’s being processed or even if it’s now been shipped. That would be great and really provide a wonderful feature for customers and admins.
Taking the idea a step further, it would also be useful to have two additional functions: 1. The ability for the customer to cancel (if the status is either “Paid” or “Processing” NOT after being “Shipped”), and 2. Display a “Refunded” status if cancellations have been made.
This is a very basic order tracking process that I’m sure people would appreciate (if they use the cart for physical items).
Personally, I deal with downloadable items! I just thought I’d just suggest this for other users as, having had to deal with physical items recently, it’s opened my eyes to other features that would really make WP eStore an excellent plugin for eCommerce.
Anyway, I hope you take the suggestion on-board. I’m sure my client would love to see something like this (or similar) implemented so that they can easily track and manage their physical items in future.

February 14, 2012 at 2:06 am #41896adminKeymasterWP eStore is mainly used for handling digital items so we don’t have a robust order tracking system. We have plans to add an order tracking feature in eStore which will do most of the things you requested (won’t need the help of eMember for this).

That additional feature will really help convince people to buy it (especially if they deal with physical items). Personally, I already think it’s awesome, as I only deal with digital items.
