InactivePlease forgive me if this is a long post. I’m lost with this and I don’t know what information is important and what isn’t.
The plugin has worked really well for about 2 years now. 2 days ago I upgraded to a new server and since then many (but not all) emails have failed – both squeeze form and paid.
I have set up jerry@jerrysguitarbar.com as the from address but since the server change I initially got this message on most emails (hotmail and gmail seem to accept them):
SMTP error from remote mail server after MAIL FROM:<guitar@jer.jerrysguitarbar.com> SIZE=1897:
host mx.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk [65.20.0.49]: 553 <guitar@jer.jerrysguitarbar.com> unable to verify address
I spoke to my hosting company about this weird new address guitar.jer etc. They did something to plug in jerry@jerrysguitarbar.com.
Now the failures continued but with a different message:
SMTP error from remote mail server after MAIL FROM:<guitar@jer.jerrysguitarbar.com> SIZE=1852:
host mx.libero.it [212.48.24.20]: 550 Invalid Domain [smtp-25.iol.local; LIB_420]
Believing that the server change MUST be the cause (since it worked on the old server), I spoke to them again. This time they told me:
(12:00:33pm)Dalton C.:You can try reinstalling that plugin and configuring it again for a working email address on this server. That may be the simplest solution.
(12:01:09pm)Jerry:What I’m missing is why, when I have set up jerry@jerrysguitarbar.com to be the from address in both the server and wpestore, does it show as coming from this address that I don’t recognise guitar.jer@jerrysguitarbar.com which seems to be a problem. Why does it not show as coming from jerry@jerrysguitarbar.com?
(12:06:36pm)Dalton C.:That would be something you would need to identify in the coding of that script unfortunately, if it really is sending out from guitar.jer@jerrysguitarbar.com. You could try contacting the plugin developer for assistance with that for example.
Is this something I can resolve with you guys? Is he wrong? I’m lost here and customers are not getting their products. And I don’t think there’s any fault with anyone – I just don’t know what I should be doing here.
Many thanks
Jerry

Moderator…I don’t recognise [guitar.jer@jerrysguitarbar.com] which seems to be a problem.
We do not hard code any email addresses in the plugins. You could try using phpMyAdmin to search your entire MySQL database for the [guitar.jer@jerrysguitarbar.com] string, in an effort to find out if there is an errant setting someplace in any of your plugins.

InactiveI’m afraid I’m lost. 3 days ago, before my server move, everything was working smoothly. After the server move a huge percentage (75%) of wpestore emails are failing. My partner and I are currently manually sending every email link to make sure the customer gets it.
It’s not that I think it’s a wpestore problem. It’s that I have no idea what to do. They’re not even always failing for the same reasons. Here are 2 examples from tonight
host spool.mail.gandi.net [217.70.184.6]
SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<linda@kxxxxk.com>:
550 5.1.8 <guitar@jer.jerrysguitarbar.com>: Sender address rejected:
Domain not found
host mail.volumetouch.net [79.170.44.33]
SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<mike.bxxn@volumetouch.net>:
550-Verification failed for <guitar@jer.jerrysguitarbar.com>
550-Unrouteable address
550 Sender verify failed
Could it simply be that the DNS is still propagating 48 hours after the server change?
I suspect I don’t even know enough to ask the right question. What I really want is for the email process to work as smoothly as it did before the server change.

KeymasterSomething regarding the email functionality is broken on your new server so you will need to ask the hosting provider for support. This is not something that needs fixing on our eStore plugin.

InactiveThanks. I’ve had 4 increasingly frustrating conversations with them about this. This is what they currently said regarding the plugin and its interraction with the server:
(1:21:54pm)Gregory M.:Jerry, do they have the software requirements?
(1:22:15pm)Gregory M.:IE; a php version, and or other requirements?
(1:25:05pm)Jerry:I don’t know. I can check. The thing is that it was working perfectly on my shared server business acount 4 days ago.
(1:25:33pm)Jerry:What exactly do you need?
(1:25:48pm)Jerry:So I can ask them
(1:26:13pm)Gregory M.:They should provide you with the requirements needed to run the software successfully.
(1:27:03pm)Jerry:Will they understand what is required if I just ask for the ‘requirements’
(1:27:31pm)Gregory M.:They absolutely should.
Can you help with this? Many thanks. I appreciate you taking the time.

ModeratorThe only requirements for eStore are WordPress 3.3 or higher, and PHP 5.3 or higher. The recommended minimum for PHP memory is 512 MB. Obviously, your last server met those requirements.
BTW, who was your last hosting provider, and who is the current hosting provider?

InactiveBoth were hostgator. I upgraded from shared to dedicated server

InactiveI’ve spoken to them one more time and I think they finally agree that something’s happening at their end. This strange address [guitar@jer.jerrysguitarbar.com] seems to be overriding the from address that I have set up both in estore and the server ‘jerry@jerrysguitarbar.com’.
The overriding email address doesn’t exist – hence the multiple bouncebacks.
Hostgator has finally raised a ticket about it. Thank you for your help and patience (and great product)

InactiveI was too optimistic that they had accepted the problem.
Their reply after 48 hours was simply ’email forms are outside our scope’. They make the point that standard webmail emails are working. The ones that are failing are coming through WPeStore.
I made the point that it worked before the migration to the new server.
It all seems (to a non-technical person like me) to hinge on how and why the from address in eStore {jerry@jerrysguitarbar.com} is being over-ridden by the non-existant {guitar@jer.jerrysguitarbar.com} which seems to be the ‘hostname’ (if that means anything to you).
At this point I don’t even know the right question to ask. If you can help in any way I’d be very grateful. If not, feel free to leave this alone.

InactiveJust FYI. I received a reply just now from the hosting company saying that the PTR record was in fact incorrect and they’ve changed it. Sure enough the bounces stopped immediately.
Sorry to have wasted your time.
