eStore – variation or separate product?

I left the following question as a comment beneath your WordPress eStore plugin main page last Thursday, Nov 8 before buying. Yet to receive a reply but since purchased the plugin anyway. Thought it might get better attention if I left it in this forum. Here it is with a bit of updating:

Hi,

I wish to sell info products. Each product will have 2 variations; a download and a DVD. I wish to handle the download through wp estore and I wish to forward DVD orders to a fulfillment service automatically. The fulfillment service provides instructions for handling this by editing the PayPal button and configuring settings in the PayPal IPN admin panel.

Question: Can I do this with WP eStore?

Can I have both a download and forward a DVD order for the same product?

How should I set this up?

How should I construct the button and can I edit it to include the product ID provided by the fulfillment service?

Will it make any difference to the download transaction if the fulfillment center ID is included in the button?

Am I neglecting to ask anything else that would be pertinent?

fyi: I am just downloaded and installed what I assume to be the latest version; 6.9.3

eStore has a feature that lets you forward the PayPal IPN of every eStore transaction to a 3rd party fulfillment site.

Go to eStore’s settings page then the “3rd Party Integration Tab”. Now look for the field named “PayPal IPN Post URL”. Specify the URL there and the IPN will be sent there after a payment.

It forwards the original PayPal IPN so it will have item number, name etc details. Most 3rd party shipping companies are familiar with PayPal IPN and can process the order from the IPN.

You can’t forward IPN only for certain variation though. It will send the IPN for each transaction because it works on a transaction level (one transaction can have 3 products). Usually the fulfillment service providers can work all this out from the name of the product. If you must forward IPN only for DVD variation or DVD product then we can do a custom job for you

Is it correct to say that the DVD should not be set up as a digital product but the download would be?

If your DVD is a physical item (I am guessing it is) then your assumption is correct. Some users offer DVD as a download too so in their case it would be a digital product.
