I’ve followed the video training at How To Use A Text Link To Sell A Product From WordPress as I wanted a link I can add to newletter marketing (which is outside WordPress)
I installed the shortcode plugin add on, as directed.
Created a page thepcossummit.com/test-link-page/
Created a text link using the url
thepcossummit.com/?wp_eStore_add_to_cart=1
But when I saved and visited the test page and clicked on the link, instead of being taken to either the check out page, or to paypal, I was taken to the home page of the site.
I had a similar weird situation when I tried to use the Add to cart option and this was redirecting to the sales page. So I replaced add to cart with a buy now button option and that resolved it.
But now I’m trying to get to the bottom of why I can’t create a working text link.
June 14, 2018 at 9:27 am #77986JaybeeghMemberJust to add to this, I tried the buy now text link option and that worked. So I am able to create a text link that works, but only for buy now, not add to cart.
The simple solution for now is that I avoid add to cart solutions which is okay at the moment as I have just one product. But it would be nice to have the add to cart function work.
June 14, 2018 at 12:31 pm #77987wzpModeratorYou can then create links using the following URL to allow someone to add item “1” to the shopping cart:
http://www.example.com/?wp_eStore_add_to_cart=1
Anyone who goes to the above URL will basically add item “1” to the shopping cart. Given you have the shopping cart shortcode placed somewhere on this page, the user will then be able to complete the checkout by clicking on the checkout button of the cart.
I do not see the cart widget anyplace on the page you used as a destination for your wp_eStore_add_to_cart link.
P.S. Some people take longer to read things. You might want to “tone down” the rate at which that pop-up on the landing page appears.
June 15, 2018 at 12:20 am #77988adminKeymasterThe item is definitely getting added to the cart but remember that you need to have a shopping cart shortcode on the page so it can show the item in the cart. If you have never used an add to cart type button before, please read the following page so you get an idea of how an add to cart works in general (it will show how you need a shopping cart to show the items added to the cart using an add to cart button):
June 21, 2018 at 7:26 am #77989JaybeeghMemberSorry, I never got notified that there were replies to this. I removed the add to cart short code because it didn’t work, but the buy now button option did. That was a mini victory for me!
June 21, 2018 at 7:36 am #77990JaybeeghMemberI have another question, please, regarding the text link created.
User opts in via the opt in page (yes, I have asked the webmaster if she can make that pop-up less predatory)
User receives daily email with text link to purchase.
If they purchase by clicking on the text link in the daily email, will that purchase be tracked to the referring affiliate, as if the link had been on the site itself?

Click the “Add this topic to your favorites” link near the top of this page.

If the link is for our WP Affiliate Platform plugin; yes.
For any other affiliate system; it will depend if you have done an integration with estore and that other affiliate system.

July 4, 2018 at 12:36 am #77993adminKeymasterIf you mean “Call to Action” then yes the following are just standard links that you can use in your email:
example.com/?wp_eStore_add_to_cart=1
September 11, 2018 at 11:07 pm #77994cwdigamesMember(my domain here)/?wp_eStore_add_to_cart=1
This doesn’t work on my site at all.
I have wp installed in a different sub folder on my domain and I’ve tried it both ways with just the domain and also added the subfolder where my wp install is, neither work.
Also my site has SSL and therefore has https://. Could this be why it’s not working.
I also have my site setup so when the customer adds an item to cart it goes to the checkout page. Will this link do that, go to the checkout page when a customer clicks on it, if it ever works?
If not then it’s just a waste and I’ll go back to using the regular buttons.
September 12, 2018 at 5:24 am #77995adminKeymasterJust to confirm, have you installed the extra eStore shortcodes addon?
