estore sends 100 confirmation e-mails but doesn’t register the sale

I have my estore setup with Paypal and a manual checkout. This worked perfectly up ’till yesterday.
The following thing is happening; after the seller fills out the form and clicks on checkout, nothing happens until the browser is giving the following message: Service Temporarily Unavailable – The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

In the meanwhile I receive not one confirmation email about a sell, but 100 emails. But the sell is not registering at all.

I have updated my wordpress (version 5.5.1) and just installed the newest estore plugin, which I requested and received. But I keep the same problem. THe PHP version on which the site is running is the lastest version. Everything is up-to-date.
I am at a loss, at this moment, not understanding what happens, or what the problem is.

Is the problem repeatable? That sounds like the text to an Error 503, which comes from your hosting provider.

This is going to be an issue related to a server conflict somewhere. Something is getting stuck. Do you have anything in the server’s error_log file that can offer some clues?

I am getting a notice about a session that is openend, and never closed again. Probably a plugin that is not working the way it supposed to. Strange, since I didn’t install any plugin since I used eStore.
I am going to disable all plugins and see if the problem is gone.
