It seems that on-the-fly product generation (triggered when a front-end page is opened) is not possible, per /forum/topic/using-shortcde-to-create-products#post-57156 .
However, our needs are such that this is really necessary, and I’m wondering if the following work-around is feasible. I’m hoping to get input on this before rolling up my sleeves.
Would the following be possible:
1. A customer arrives at a given store page.
2. The db is queried (separate tables from a separate plugin I’m developing), returning the on-the-fly product data needed at that time.
3. This separate plugin creates new products and feeds them into eStore.
4. The front-end page is built using the new eStore products, and users can purchase and checkout as usual.
5. The ‘new’ products can either be deleted automatically at that time, or can be done at a later date, say by a script that culls old products (the concern is that after months, the thousands of now old products generated with each page view may slow the db queries over time.).
The back story:
– A conventional store page sells conventional products (physical music CDs)
– Other pages allow parent to register children for weekly classes (the bulk of the business). We allow students to enter mid-session for a pro-rated price. This causes online product pricing to become out-of-date once the first week of classes is over, requiring manual update of prices (and dates, etc) each week. This requires constant attention and is also error-prone, which we’d like to automate.
Thank you.
BTW, this is my first WP project, and the eStore integration for the conventional products has gone easily and without issues. Multiple Paypal carts/stores were investigated. Kudos for the good work.

It does not rely on a database.
November 25, 2014 at 6:20 pm #67004dshortellMemberThank you. We had initially looked at the WordPress Simple PayPal Shopping Cart. It did not have all the functionality we desired. I am grateful for the timely response, but was hoping for a yes/no response as to the feasibility of the proposed work-around. It may also benefit future users with a similar dilemma.
Best.
