We have had a problem for awhile now where some of our contacts in our MailChimp account literally disappear. I believe I’ve traced the problem to our eStore. When someone purchases something from us, regardless of whether they are a subscriber in our MailChimp database, they get an email asking them to confirm their subscription to our newsletter.
If they click subscribe then everything is ok. However, if they do not click subscribe (and they are already subscribed previously) then they are no longer in our MailChimp database.
I have tested this on my own MailChimp account and can confirm this is the issue, which is triggered from eStore’s integration with Mailchimp. I’m wondering how to solve this problem. It seems to me the best thing is to not have eStore tell MailChimp to send out a “subscription” email if they are already subscribed, but I’m not sure how to do that in the eStore plugin. Do I have a setting somewhere set incorrectly?
Can you help?
You “COULD” try turning off the “Double Opt-In” integration feature. The justification would be that the customer email has already been verified; by nature of them having made a purchase. However; as stated in the fine-print of the integration option, you run the risk of having MailChimp suspend your account; which should be unlikely, if the email addresses submitted were verified, by nature of being associated with a purchase.
