Hello folks – hope you’re well.
We have registered an online business, within the European Union.
From what I understand, we need to charge VAT for B2C (business to customer) transactions, but not for B2B (business to business) transactions.
If we want to automatically charge VAT for a B2C sale via Paypal, this is easy through the Paypal interface, where we can set up domestic and international VAT rates.
But how can we not charge that VAT when the buyer is a company (B2B transaction)? In Paypal, we can either instruct the system to automatically add VAT when a sale is made from a specific country, or not charge VAT at all.
There is no option in Paypal to “charge VAT if the buyer is an individual but don’t charge VAT when the buyer is a company.”
I have heard of systems that do this automatically, like JVZoo and ThriveCart (no clue how though).
Is there a way to do this with the awesome WP eStore plugin?
Thanks!
George
Hi George, unfortunately we don’t have a solution for this at the moment.
Hi, Keith!
I understand.
Maybe a simple text field could be added to the checkout that says something like “This purchase is for a registered business” or “have a VAT id?”, like so:

If the buyer checks it, the Paypal VAT addition gets disabled (or something similar).
I feel this addition to eStore might make it an even more compliant and viable solution for online merchants – plus allow it to take an even bigger market share.
Thanks!
George
Thank you. That will require a bit of coding work though. So we will need to evaluate it after we get a few requests for it.
Ok, thanks, Keith.
