I was wondering if there’s any way (workaround) to enable gzip compression from within W3 Total Cache and have it selectively exclude the eStore download script. I’ve had it disabled because it was causing problems with Internet Explorer users, but it seems like there must be a way to skip over that one file. Thanks.

download

October 4, 2013 at 7:55 pm #58047morleyMemberI’ve been getting reports here and there of people running into this issue with older versions of Internet Explorer. I tested it with IE 9 without issue. I’ve added download.php to the exception list. Do I need to append a wildcard of some sort to the end of it to account for the links’ query strings?
October 21, 2013 at 5:25 pm #58048morleyMemberThis still seems to be an issue for people who use older versions of IE even with download.php in the exception list. Any thoughts? Thanks.
October 21, 2013 at 11:19 pm #58049adminKeymasterOne of the issues is that the older versions of IE doesn’t support gzip compression. I wish the W3 Total Cache plugin had a checkbox to enable gzip compression for all browsers except IE. When you say older version, how old are we talking about?
October 22, 2013 at 2:56 am #58050morleyMemberI’m not sure how old the versions are that cause this problem, but things worked fine when I tested it with IE 9. The gzip Wikipedia page indicates that 6, 7, and 8 don’t support it. An effective workaround is to have customers who run into this issue right click on the links and pull down to “Save link as,” or “Save target as.” For now, including a sentence about that in the purchase e-mail should be sufficient; I’ll see if I can put in that feature request for W3 Total Cache.

regarding adding “download” to the “Prevent caching exception list”
Morley mentions he “added download.php to the exception list”
I’m wondering which do I add: “download” or “download.php” ?
thanks
