Tagged: encrypted links
I hopeful someone can help me with this. I have been running a pay per view website fro training videos for several years now. The buyer purchases their product and they automatically recieve an encrypted link from amazon S3 to stream the video for a max number of views over 48 hrs. This has worked well.
However, through frustration with windows based pc’s failing over a short period of time, I have switched to an apple and was astonished to find that when purchasing the videos through safari, they downloaded onto the hard drive before playing. This leaves the buyer with the ability to keep and share the videos for as long or as much as they like.
Is there a way to stop this ability on mac’s?
I have all of the ‘downloadable’ boxes unchecked on the items to purchase for info.
Many thanks
C
Have you verified this behavior on a different Mac, besides yours?
Unfortunately, I don’t have access to another mac
Are you just linking to a static video file or do you have the video embedded on a page (so it is playable only). Some users make the mistake of directly linking to a video file (when they are wanting to do a pay per view setup). When you link directly to a static file, some browsers will play it, some will download it. You can’t control that as it is dictated by the browser.
If you want to only allow streaming of a video file then you need to EMBED the video on a page. So someone can go to the page to view the video. Then use eStore’s following feature to control access to the page (so a customer can view the page after the payment):
