Tagged: eMember expire, eStore trial
Hi
I have been testing on Paypal sandbox. Thank you for great product.
I configured a product in eStore, 10 days trial free period and after that $100/year recurring subscription. I also set up a Gold membership level and ‘Expire After an Interval: 365 days’ to this subscription.
Now a customer processed PayPal subscription on April 2 2013. Immediately after that he got Gold membership status on eMember (it said ‘Your Account Expires: April 4 2014’). However, he cancelled the subscription during the trial period. He did not have to pay at all. Now I checked eMember status. It says that ‘Your Account Expires: April 4 2014, and Your Account Status: unsubscribed, membership level Gold.
This is a problem. If a customer cancel subscription during trial period (that means he has not paid for year subscription fee yet), he now should not be granted Gold membership. It is also reasonable to me to say that a customer should be given membership upto April 14 2014 because I have given him trial period 10 days.
I want to use a free trial period before subscription payment. Also I would like to use ‘Expire After an Interval: XX days’. Any advice appreciated.
For your scenario you should really be setting the “Subscription Duration” field to “No expiry or until cancelled”.
Since you have a recurring payment of $100/year this makes sense and it will also solve your problem when a member cancels because their membership will automatically be cancelled if they cancel their payments when you use this setting.

Note that paypal will not charge your customer until AFTER the trial period has elapsed – meaning that your members will be able to enjoy free access for the trial period.
