I run an ebook store for a client with a mix of paid and free downloads. Google analytics show an average of 9000 visitors per month of which about 7000 are unique. The paid for download stats in the manage products section is correct but the free downloads are often way in excess of the number of visits for the same period. For example for the period 25 Jul – 23 Aug one free book has exceeded 18000 downloads with only 9765 visitors of which 7964 were unique.
Does anyone have any idea why this is – or am I missing something that is obvious?
Spiders, robots, and web crawlers — Oh My!
How are you measuring the number of free downloads? And specifically, how are the free downloads accessed?
I think you have given me the answer with spiders, robots and web crawlers.
The measure is taken from the Manage Products section of eStore and by accessing the tables through my PHP.
Free downloads are downloaded by clicking on the download link from eStore. the directory is protected and is not in the wp-content-uploads directory.
