I am selling audio files grouped as a zip file over 100 mb. When I test download the zip file it changes to a zip.cpgz file on my Mac. When I use the same url in my browser there is no problem. Is this file too large or is there another issue? I can’t tell my customers to go find some techie fix to unzip the files. I have started the process of activating an S3 account so if the problem is limited RAM from my host switching to S3 might be the solution.
The problem allegedly occurs under OSX for one or more of the following reasons:
1. The file was corrupt.
2. You tried to open the file before it had finished downloading.
3. The uncompressed contents is more than 2 GB in size.
For 100 MB files, S3 would be a good choice to eliminate problem #1. Also, the download improvements for using S3 may eliminate problem #2.
