I realize this can be done by creating 2 products, however i have a companion product that is “not sold individually” and I need to give buyers the ability to “select and add it” to the product they plan to purchase.

example: “other users purchased this” and a checkbox + price to add to cart this is “not” a variable like small|med|large it is

Product A needs variable b to work better,

I have a long list of products that require this “variable+price”

I have looked to see if this can be accomplished with using “categories” but really need a solution

    any info appreciated

Few questions for you so I can understand your setup.

How many variables per product are you talking about?

    Different product have different variables?

I am pretty sure you can do what you are after using the “Digital Variation” option of eStore:

Anyway, once I get more details from you, I will be able to give more info.

only one “variable” for the product

    example:

    product A with a price of $399.00

would like a variable “add to purchase” $79.00

    ADD TO CART = $478.00

Okay thank you. This should be doable with the digital variation option referred earlier.

Use a price of $399.00 for the product. Now create two zip files:

    1) The one with the main product is called “mainproduct.zip”

    2) The one with the main product and addon is called “mainproduct-plus-addon.zip”

Now specify the following as your digital variation:

    Addon|None::http://yourdomain.com/downloads/mainproduct.zip|Addon A::79::http://yourdomain.com/downloads/mainproduct-plus-addon.zip

Let me know if there is any particular reason why you think this can’t be done with the above digital variation.

I have a few questions about Digital products and variations.

    1. What happens if in addition to setting up a variation, something is entered in the: Digital Product URL field? Will it send what is entered in the URL AND the appropriate variation (if any)?

    2. How are Digital Variations treated with respect to the other settings in the “Digital Content Details” Panel?

My assumptions is that all the settings there, including download limit, download duration, and Anonymous download flag apply.

    3. What about PDF Stamping? My assumptions is that if any of the variations are PDF they too will be stamped.

    4. Can one of the digital variations be “empty”?

I’m thinking I’d like to use the “Digital Content URL” as the means to send a PDF while the variations would send other content.

I also discovered an interesting use of the variation field(s): I ask customers to specify what OSX and/or Windows version they are using. It doesn’t change what I ship, but does allow me to collect some marketing information.

    1) If you are using a digital variation then the file associated with the variation (that the user selected during the purchase) will be delivered to the customer.

    2) Yes, all those settings apply to the digital variation too

    3) Yes, PDF stamping also works on digital variation.

    4) Yes, you can have empty variations.
