HI: Just purchased the plugin yesterday and the potential is amazing! I may be pushing my luck here but am asking for a little help. I am selling music on my site. A CD will have say 10 songs on it. Each song will have multiple download formats. MP3, CD 16 Bit 44k, and Hi Def 24bit 96K stereo music files plus being able to buy the whole CD or a surround sound Blu-ray disk. Basically there will be 3 download options per song and 2 more options to buy a CD or Blu-ray.

So, I need to group about 32 buy options per CD. 10 songs x 3 download options = 30 and then the 2 Disk buy options. Which cart or layout would work best for this? It looks there is multiple options for carts and layouts and I didn’t want to spend two days trying to figure the best system out. I am starting a record label and will have many CDs and songs on the site over time.

So, I will have One title/name for the CD. 10 song names with 3 download options per song.

2 buy disk options, CD and/or Blu-ray. Please advise. Many Thanks, Dan

Question: If a customer purchases an album are you licensing them on a per format basis, or a per song basis?

If you are licensing them on a per song basis, it is much easier to present them with the download format options, after the purchase has occurred. Otherwise, you might end up with complaints that they “accidentally purchased the wrong format.”

So, what you would do is, using variations, give them the option of licensing a physical or digital album. For physical albums, handle “as usual.”

For digital albums, create an APR protected download page that contains “Download Now” buttons to each of the formats available.

You’d then sell access to the APR protected page, as your digital variation.

Alternative Approach

You could also handle the selling of a music album using the following approach:

You could create a big zip file with all the songs in all different formats and then deliver that zip file when someone buys the full album product.

For selling each song, you can create an individual product for each song. Use the digital variation for format selection. Now place buy button for each of these products on your album/product page. Your customers can choose which songs they want to buy and will get the correct song download in their chosen format after the sale.
