I have been reading through quite a lot of the documentation on eStore & eMember, but I would like to confirm that I’ve got it right.
I would like to offer ebooks at a price for non-members, but for free download for members. Is it possible to have one product with two different download options? I don’t necessarily need different membership levels, just free downloads to members (who pay monthly or annually).
If it’s not possible, does that mean I’d have to create 2 products for each ebook, one for members & the other to be sold at a price for non members. would I then have to protect the free download for members with an emember shortcode?December 7, 2012 at 9:50 pm #52176wzpModerator
You setup only one product. You would then setup a page that displays the normal “buy now” buttons for non members using one shortcode. Then setup another page that you protect with eMember and use “download now” buttons using eStore’s download now shortcode (this way only your members can download the digital file from this page).
An alternative solution is to use the eStore’s member only download addon:November 22, 2014 at 7:48 pm #52177WeddingShackMember
Having purchased eMember today, I’m also using the members only download button add-on. For logged in paid membership the BUTTON correctly changes to DOWNLOAD from ADD TO CART.
However, upon clicking DOWNLOAD the following error message appears on a blank page:
Error! The admin of this site requires the product price to be set to 0.00 before it can be given as a free download!
I’ve updated the Extra Shortcodes add-on today as I have read somewhere on here that this is where the problem lied and that it had been rectified in the newer release.
I’ve only purchased eMember today, so am a little disappointed it isn’t working the way it should.
Look forward to hearing from you asap.

I’ve partially got things working. I’ve UNCHECKED in wp estore settings “Enforce Zero Price Checking on Free Product Download”.
So, everything working fine, except for digital downloads that have VARIATIONS … I sell, for example, editable labels (files) in a variety of colours. Now whilst the Download button appears, upon clicking it, it diverts to a 404 page.
I can live with this, in that I just want sell variations, but it would be helpful if this could be looked into at some point in the future.
