Hi, quite a few of our new subscribers are getting the following error message after successfully completing their registration forms…
Error! The unique registration code you used in the URL has already been used or it is invalid!
The registration links sent to them have not been used before. I would understand if they got the error immediately after clicking the registration link but it appears after they have completed registration.
Any ideas why this could be happening? And why only for some subscribers.
February 1, 2021 at 2:51 pm #82443wzpModeratorWhat is the signup process, you are using, that leads to the members receiving the registration links?
And are the errors specific to a particular membership level?
Also, are you using any page caching plugins or CDN services?
February 6, 2021 at 8:37 am #82474KristinaParticipantHi, thanks for you reply.
Our sign up process is:
User clicks on a “Join Now” button on our website which then takes them straight to PayPal where they set up the recurring monthly payment. They are then taken to a Thank You page and are sent an email with a unique registration link.
They click on the link in the email and this then takes them to the registration page where they enter their details and submit it.
It is after this that only some of them receive the error message, although their registration is successful.
We are not using any page caching plugins but have server-side caching enabled. Not sure what CDN is.
KristinaFebruary 6, 2021 at 4:44 pm #82476adminKeymasterThe caching issue needs to be looked at first to make sure the visitors are not seeing a cached page with that message (randomly).
Who is your hosting provider? Ask the hosting provider, if there is any page caching enabled for this site.
Do you have any plugin that offers “caching”? Some non cache plugin can have a feature for caching also.
For the user who sees the error, is the member account registration complete? I mean if you go to the admin interface and find that user’s profile, is the username value complete or empty?
February 8, 2021 at 8:09 am #82483KristinaParticipantMy hosting provider is GoDaddy & I have raised a support ticket with them to ask about the caching on their side. I don’t have any plugins installed that enable caching.
I would say that about 90% of the users who see this error get it after they have registered successfully.February 8, 2021 at 5:30 pm #82486wzpModeratorI would say that about 90% of the users who see this error get it after they have registered successfully.
Yup, sounds like a caching issue. BTW, which hosting plan at
NGoDaddy are you using?February 9, 2021 at 2:30 am #82500KristinaParticipantHi again. So GoDaddy support have got back to me with this reply…
“As the site is a membership site, it sounds like the unique URLs are getting cached for some visitors. To remedy this, I’ve changed the site cache settings to Site Caching, which should prevent the error from being seen. This will rely on website headers for cache/nocache arguments, which should prevent the currently cached page from coming up incorrectly. If you or your visitors continue to experience the error, please let us know below, and please provide both a timestamp and IP address for the visitor if possible so that we can follow up with a more in depth examination.”
So fingers crossed this will resolve it (unless you can see any issues with this potential solution).
I am on their “Enhance – Business Hosting” plan.
