When an affiliate logs in to the affiliate center there is a page with links at the top for Home, Edit Profile, Referrals, Sales, Payment History, Ads, Contact, and Log out.
Below that is a bar graph and below that is Welcome (affiliate’s name) and below that is:
Your affiliate link: (affiliates link)
When my affiliates log in they try and click the affiliate link and get the following message:
Error 404 Page not found
Why is the affiliate link displayed here? I have explained to them to go to the ads page and select a banner or text ad to embed into their websites. This welcome page display is confusing them as they think they need to copy and insert their affiliate link or click on their affiliate link. Should they receive an error message when they click on that link or something else?

It will only be a 404 if you have specified an incorrect URL value in the settings or affiliate Ads section of this plugin.
Can you please post an example of an affiliate link which is not working? This way we will be able to see the issue better.
What URL value do you have in the “Default Landing Page” field of the affiliate plugin settings?
March 27, 2013 at 5:58 pm #54663SageMemberWhen I log in as an affiliate, I get this on the screen:
Your Affiliate Link: indoorcylingsummit.com?ap_id=dauphin87 (this one gives me the error 404 message if I click on it)
In the plugin settings I have the default landing page set as indoorcyclingsummit.com
which is the web site the affiliates should be directing traffic to.
In the ads section my text ad is this: Indoor Cycling Summit which works when copied and pasted into an email and works when the code is embedded into a webpage:
March 27, 2013 at 10:30 pm #54664PeterMemberI’ve noticed that you are missing the “www.” at the beginning of the first (problematic) link whereas the second link which works has the “www” at the beginning of the URL.
Can you check your WP general settings and ensure that the your URLs include “www.”. Your server is suppose to automatically redirect to the correct version even when you don’t have “www” but your server isn’t doing it (which is not normal).
Anyway, go to the affiliate plugin settings and enter the following URL value in the
"Default Landing Page"
field which will fix the issue:[http://www.indoorcyclingsummit.com]

February 13, 2015 at 1:32 pm #54666caitlinpyleMemberI am having the same problem, but when I go to add the www, I get an error: “Sorry, but you have to change your domain name here.” and I click on it but it takes me right back to the General Settings page… endless loop.
I’m on GoDaddy and officially my domain is proofreadanywhere.com — i don’t know why i don’t have the WWW, i thought that was the domain I bought. I want to change it but I don’t know how, and if that will mess everything up or not.
When you CLICK on the affiliate link displayed when logged in, you go to a 404 page: [http://proofreadanywhere.com/affiliate-portal/proofreadanywhere.com/?ap_id=caitlinpyle1]
If copy and paste the link that is displayed as is, it’s fine. It’s only when you click on it that it goes to 404. I see the tail-end of the 404 URL actually IS the correct link. No idea how I can fix this.
February 13, 2015 at 11:50 pm #54667adminKeymasterThe “www” keyword is not that important. However, you need to make sure you have the “HTTP” keyword in your URL when you are configuring an affiliate AD.
So, edit your affiliate ad from the admin interface of the affiliate platform plugin. Correct the value of the “Target URL” field to make sure it has the “http” keyword in there. It is best to go to the target page (using a browser). Then copy the full URL from the browser and paste it in the “Target URL” field. Then save your affiliate ad.
