Tagged: Drip content, Stacked Memberships
Hi – I am publishing a digital magazine. I want to equate each issue with a membership level. This will mean that a new member gets a access to the current issue but not past issues (which they can purchase). It also means that they continue to have access to issues that they bought even if they cancel subscription (just like would have with a paper magazine). My concern is that after 3 years a member would have 36 memberships – I don’t think that is a problem for them as they will simply view each membership as an issue of the magazine. But will it slow the site down significantl?
The stacking of membership levels does not impact site performance. Each time a protected membership area is accessed; the membership level required for access is compared to the “vector list” of that particular member’s stacked levels. The vector list would be added onto at the rate of one membership level per month. Both you and the members would be dead from natural causes, long before the length of the vector lists has any affect on site performance. And that’s assuming we never progress beyond 64 bit computing.
Great, thanks.
Could I ask another question – I know that it is possible to bulk change a membership level but is there a way to bulk add a level to a people on a particular level?
WP eMember –> Admin Functions –> Bulk Operation –> Bulk Update Membership Level of Members
Hi – yes I had seen that but that seems to be a method for changing their level – I want them to retain a level but add another one. So everyone who is on level 2 gets to be level 2 and level 3. I thought of auto upgrade but I am not sure if auto upgrade would work after a bulk operation.
If you have Secondary (Stacked) Membership Levels enabled, performing the forementioned bulk operation will add onto the list of membership levels. However, you may “panic,” because the dashboard only displays the most recent level. But if you were to edit any of the upgraded members, you will see that both the upgraded and the previous levels are intact.
Many thanks – perfect!!
