eMember with Simplepress

With another membership site I have – using WishList and a SimplePress forum – when people get registered for the membership they are also automatically registered for the forum. Is this the case with eMember as well?

Seems to have helped, as far as new members go – but still a REAL pain for me as admin. I am listed as the admin on the forum – yet I can’t even access it!! (please login yada yada).

Hate to keep mentioning WishList (I DO love eMember – please don’t get me wrong) but they make it a seamless integration. As admin I am automatically allowed to access the member’s area – and members don’t need to get confused with WordPress logins etc etc

I just want to be able to write some introductory forum posts as administrator before letting people in! LoL

What should I do here?

P.S. I have all three boxes now checked off (WordPress User Integration) on the eMember main settings page, yet still no luck. If I created a new emember account I’d just end up with two “Bentley”s on the forum (plus not sure I can grant admin status to a member).

I have little doubt there is some tiny tidbit of info I am missing here!!!

If you don’t snap out of the mindset of how wishlist works you are going to continue to struggle. Remember, eMember does not use the same WordPress users table like wishlist does (without going too much into details… we don’t think touching the core WordPress database tables is a good practice)

With that said, it is really simple to get that same functionality in eMember… you import your WordPress admin user to eMember (You can do this from import WP User tab). Do the following:

1. Create a special membership level in eMember called “Admin Level” (you can obviously name it anything you like). Give this level the role “Admin” and it will have admin privilege for all WordPress stuff.

2. Now go to Import WP user tab and import your admin user to eMember’s “Admin Level” that you created.

That’s all.. now your user will have the WP admin role. Yes, it takes an extra step for you to do that admin thing but this model has other benefits.

Haha – I know I must drive you technical-wizards insane sometimes! All I know is “works”, “doesn’t work”.

To be fair – I love the simplicity of eMember (over Wishlist) and of course the seamless integration with all your other amazing plugins – so please don’t take that the wrong way. Just a silly observation from someone who doesn’t know any better.

Hi there, I can’t find the Simple press plugin on WordPress. Is it obsolete?

I guess I’m going to go the BBPress route and will try to piece together step-by-step process from the forum questions unless you have one made?

I have integrated the WP and the e-mamber so that I can use BBpress and done everything you state above.

As for the e-member, I have”sitewide protection” enabled, except for the sales page and the pricing page.

On “manage membership levels” the members and administrator have global access to everything. I went in and “Granted access” to all the pages. But I noticed that BB Press forum posts are not automatically given access unless I go in and grant access on it. I see “you do not have permission to view this content”. So that means, whenever someone creates a new topic, I need to grant access to it before anyone can see it..?

Is this the case?

Also, as per the recommendations you gave to bently, I have imported my WordPress admin user to eMember (from import WP User tab).

Created a special membership level in eMember called “Admin Level”and gave this level the role “Admin” and I imported mu admin user to eMember’s “Admin Level” that I created.

But when I am signed in as admin and editing pages, emember still asks me to sign in to the protected pages. Shouldn’t I be able to see everything when I’m logged in as admin?

Did you also give this membership level permission to see everything (via the manage content protection menu)? eMember protects content based on the permissions you set for a given membership level.

Yes. I gave the admin permission to see everything.

I’m trying to figure out if I want to have people sign in via WordPress at all. I don’t know if I need it if I’m not going to use buddy press.

If I give the Admin permission to see everything on e-member, should I be able to skip the WordPress thing and be able to work on the website in the back without having to sign into e-member? Or is the only way to see everything when I’m working in the back to sign in to e-member as well in the front. ?

If you don’t need members to have a WordPress user account (for another plugin) then no need to enable that option.

Yes, the only way to see content (protected by emember) on the front end is to be logged in as a emember user who has permission to see that content.

Automatically log into eMember:

If checked members will be automatically logged into eMember when they log in using the wordpress login system.

How does that work?
