    hello,

    1.)

where/which directory is best for keeping media files on hosting

inside or outside of public_html ?

or specific folder of eMember ?

or specific folder of eStore ?

such as downloadable files, images, videos, restricted contents

for safely protected from non-member to display/directly url download when using eMember/eStore

2.) Where to keep files such as Free Contents for eMember/eStore ?

    The reason for asking this,

I wish to create well-organised backend.

    Thank you

    ASP

If you are using eStore then you can put your files outside of the web document root (public_html) directory. The following post is a good read for you:

    https://support.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forums/topic/download-directory-protection

You can also use emember’s download directory protection option. See the 2nd option from the following documentation:

    https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/wordpress-membership/how-to-configure-a-members-only-download-page-70

Another really good alternative is to keep them on Amazon S3, and use eStore to access them.

    https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/ecommerce/amazon-web-services-simple-storage-service-aws-s3-integration-1101

    • The dirst year is free.
    • Most users report a monthly cost of less than 15 cents.
    • It makes the download process more reliable.
    • Using Amazon S3 lessens your server’s bandwidth usage.
    • Netflix also uses Amazon.

If you are going to host the files on your server, do not place them in your plugin directories; or your may accidentally overwrite them, the next time you upgrade the plugin.

Here is some other “tips” on this subject.
