I have the Simple:Press forum plugin and when I upload files through the forum they are not protected by the eMember plugin from download by non-members. If someone can figure out the files structure [even though that is unlikely since files are saved by a user and date file structure] then they can easily download the file without having to log in as a member. Or if a Member gets malicious then they could post links to the information that other members would not necessarily want divulged.
BTW – My site is not currently live, I am running WP 4.1 and I am on a server running nginx so .htaccess edits are not an option.
I tried the Enabled Specific Page Lockdown to try and protect the folder from which they are located, hoping that by enabling it would protect all files in a particular directory. But unfortunately it did not work. And uploading the files to the Download Protection Folder will not work as it will not be available to our Members when they want to upload a file.
I have heard it called ‘Group URL’ protection in other plugins. Where entering a URL will protect all files and pages beginning with that folder structure. But apparently Enabled Specific Page Lockdown is only protecting pages with the exact URL entered.
Am I missing something, maybe a setting? Or do you have a way to protect files uploaded to the forum that I am missing and if not do you know of a work around solution I could use?
Greg
You probably want to use the 2nd option explained in the following documentation:
