I’m trying to wrap my head around how renewals work.
According to this, you can set up a PayPal button that can automatically renew the account.
If that’s the case, then do you have to enter anything special in the Advanced Settings when setting up the button so that it doesn’t put them on a new membership level?
There is nothing special to do. After a payment is made the plugin will check for existing account with that email address that was used to make the payment and upgrade that member account if it finds one. If no account exists with that email address (the one used to make the payment) it will create a new account (assuming someone new just made a payment).
If you tell me which of the following options you are using for the PayPal payment then I will be able to give you more specific answer:
– Direct PayPal integration
– PayPal via WP eStore
I’ll be using Direct PayPal integration for processing renewals.
