GOAL:
Any way to make the Search box on pages where results are filtered by state work the same on all state filtered pages?
BACKGROUND
I’m trying to set up a Public Profile listing which includes a one click “Display by State” function.
See [http://www.australianvoiceassociation.com.au/find-a-voice-professional] (main page, not filtered)
The buttons above the Search box offer one click access to separate pages with filtered lists based on state e.g. click the NSW button takes you to a page where the shortcode displays only members based in NSW.
[emember_extended_summary_list fields=”first_name,last_name,email,address_state,Profession” status=”active” levels=”13″ filter=”address_state=’NSW'”]
Works well.
However, when you’re on the NSW page [http://www.australianvoiceassociation.com.au/find-a-voice-professional-nsw/], further searches via the search box no longer work.
e.g. if you’re on the NSW page then enter Helen in the search box = “No items found”
However on the main (non-state) page [http://www.australianvoiceassociation.com.au/find-a-voice-professional/], searching for Helen finds one result.
Shortcode: [emember_extended_summary_list fields=”first_name,last_name,email,address_state,Profession” status=”active” levels=”13″]
Any way to ensure that the Search box on the filtered state pages (NSW only, QLD only etc) searches the entire database for all members (same as the main non-State page) so we get the same results each time regardless of which page we perform a search from?
Am I going about this the right way?
March 2, 2014 at 12:57 am #61229adminKeymasterWhen you are on the NSW page, the search should ONLY search the NSW users. Thats how it should work and it is working that way. For example, if you viewing all posts in wordpress. Then you filter it by category and do a search, you will only get results withing that category (not all). Does that make sense?
What you can do is have a link at the top of that page that says something like “Search all users”. That link can take them to the all users page.
What you are trying to do in terms of searching all users even when you are in a filtered page is not a common practice. So it can definitely be done but it will require a custom tweak job:
