MemberI have a protected member area where members can click to view videos and click to download PDF files. My client wants to know who clicked what link, and how many times.
If this is not possible in eMember, isn’t there a possibility to achieve this via the WordPress User account? Hints are welcome. Thanks!

ModeratorWhat your client wants is called “user activity audit trails.” Neither eMember or WordPress support such a capability. Furthermore, unless you’ve got a lot of resources at your disposal; pursuit of such a capability, outside a government or employment related environment, will complicate GDPR compliance, beyond your client’s wildest imagination.
You could offer the client Google analytics; which would provide aggregated information about site user behavior; without the exposure of collecting/storing/protecting personally identifiable information.

KeymasterYou can configure that PDF file download using our simple download monitor plugin. That plugin can track how many times a file has been downloaded and who downloaded it (if the user is logged in).

MemberThank you very much for your feedback! The files I offer to the members are stored in AWS S3. When a member clicks on a file, it plays/opens in a lightbox.
Question 1: In this configuration, is it also possible to use Simple Download Monitor to track how many times an S3-file has been opened and who opened it (user is logged in)?
Question 2: I use WP eMember to protect my Member Area. Does Simple Download Manager recognize these logged in members? Or should I use the option “Also create WP user when adding an eMember account”?
Cheers!

KeymasterYes, the simple download manager can recognize emember users.
It won’t work with a lightbox. It only works if you are offering a file for download. Simple download manager has S3 integration so if there is a file that you are allowing members to download, those downloadable files can be managed using the simple download manager plugin.

I don’t know your exact setup but you could have your normal lightbox that you have right now which allows a member to view the item. Then add a download now button below which will allow the member to download the item. This download button can be configured using the simple download manager plugin.
