Tagged: Auto logout, Logout
I have the Logout Member After XX Minutes of Inactivity set for 5 minutes, although it doesn’t matter what the number is, but it never logs me out. I would have thought that you have to be inactive on the site, but just in case, I placed my pen mouse down and waited without interacting with my PC at all. Still no go. It seems like a simple enough function to use, I can’t see any other function that might be a prerequisite for it to work. Any ideas would be appreciated. I’m new to this, so be gentle.
After the specified number of minutes, the logout action will “kick in,” the next time the user tries to refresh the page or access restricted content.
It will not automagically cause a logout message or screen to appear; like one would see on a banking site. That is because such functionality requires use of a local polling script.
Amazon works the same way. If you are inactive for more than so many minutes, you will be asked to log back in, the next time you access a restricted content screen.
That would be fine if that worked, but it doesn’t. I just set it to 1 minute, logged in, set my mouse down and waited. After two minutes, I tried to access a protected member page and I still could.
Hmmm, scratch that. It does work that way. I don’t know why it didn’t before, but it is now. Only thing I can think of is that I may have had two browser windows open and logged in, one for editing, the other for testing. My mistake. Thanks for your help.
