I have a user who renewed their emember account more than once (ie; so now they are renewed for 2017, 2018 and 2019). My intention is that people can only renew for one year and not then renew for an extra year. Is there a way to control that?
Thanks
May 2, 2017 at 4:02 pm #75598wzpModeratorHow exactly, did this happen? Was it because they went in 3 times and renewed; or was it because they clicked more than once on a “Submit Payment” button; or was it because they refreshed a browser page, or clicked the page back button, after submitting their payment?

Are you saying that after a person renews for the next year, they are not able to renew for another year until a certain time period before expiration? That’s the want I want it to work and I think it does – but can you confirm?

There’s no fix for that; except maybe a big-red warning message. Practically every online bank, store, or bill pay service; warns users “DO NOT REFRESH YOUR SCREEN OR USE THE BROWSER BACK BUTTON.”

I never said that; you did. I don’t know of any “morally responsible businesses,” that go out of their way to prevent users from giving them extra money.

No, it does not. The best we could offer is perhaps a custom coding job; that would prevent more than 1 purchase per browser session…

…but as a business owner; why on Earth would you want to do that??? Are you concerned that you will go out of business, before the 3 renewals run their course, LOL?
May 2, 2017 at 7:01 pm #75601jwebadgilityMemberNo – I understand all that about doubleclicking the payment button. What I’m asking is this – Assuming she only clicked once to make a payment, and then she came back later to renew again (even though she already renewed) – is possible that she could renew for another year? We don’t want people to renew for future years.
May 2, 2017 at 7:20 pm #75602wzpModeratorWithout having to resort to a custom coding job; imagine this, as a solution…
- You have 2 membership levels: “Paid” and “Paid Renewable”
- The only difference between the 2 levels is that “Paid Renewable” has access to a “renew membership” page.
- When a member first joins, they are assigned to the “Paid” membership level.
- You use the “Auto Upgrade” feature so that, after 10 months, the member is auto-upgraded to the “Paid Renewable” level.
- They have 2 months in the “Paid Renewable” level to renew their membership; before they get auto-upgraded, back to the free level.
- If they renew, they get “sent back” to the “Paid” membership level and the whole process starts over.
