    Hi,

I am looking for a way to ban a user. I tried most settings: expire, unsubscribed, etc… but they can always log in. I want them to NOT be able to log in.

Yes: I could completely delete their account, but that would break a lot of content they created. So: keep their content, but not allow them to log in.

    Any thoughts?

An “Inactive” or “Expired” user will only be able to log into the site if you have the following option enabled:

    Allow Expired Account login

Remember, that the users with “Inactive” or “Expired” status can’t see any protected content. So you shouldn’t really be worried about that.

You can always move any content from that user to another user account (WordPress allows you to do it when you try to delete a WP User record). Then delete the account.

Hi, I’ve been trying to do the same. I also have the ‘Allow Expired Account Login’ setting checked because I would like premium members who have cancelled their subscriptions previously, to be able to upgrade again from the free membership that they have been downgraded to.

However, there may be instances we will need to deactivate the free members. I’ve tried setting it to inactive or expired, but they can still login and access content. I think the reason they can access content is because their account state is changed back to ‘active’ when they log in. What am I not doing right? Please help, thanks.

I think the reason they can access content is because their account state is changed back to ‘active’ when they log in.

Is that a “guess,” or have you actually confirmed that?

Would this be a more appropriate solution for you?

If you want to just block a user then you should be able to use the following interface of the plugin to block the user:

WP eMember -> Members -> Manage Blacklist
