eMember – How to stop temporary membership level from being reused

Hi, I would like to set up a Guest membership level which will enable users to check out the membership site for 24 or 48 hours before deciding to buy in. What concerns me, however, is that people could just keep re-registering using that temporary membership option, and therefore avoid having to join a paid plan.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

I see you have eStore… How about doing this?

Create memberships with free trial periods, that after 3 days will automagically begin charging them the regular rate. Trying to subvert the payment system on a regular basis will “make life difficult” for them.

That would indeed work, however to get a better take up rate I want to avoid people having to give credit card information up front. In your experience do many people try to wrought the system in the way I describe? If not, it might be worth just biting the bullet and letting a handful get away with it.

It really depends on what kind of service you are running. Try it and see how it goes.
