Tips and Tricks HQ Support Portal › Forums › WP eMember › eMember – How to protect pdf files?
We have our website set up with wp eStore and wp eMember. We have a member’s area where members can download pdf files. We have realized that the direct links to the files can be indexed in the search engines and accessed by non members by direct link. We’ve read the documentation on here about the different options to protect the files, but they do not work for us. (I may be doing it wrong.) I understand if I moved each one into the eStore it may be easier to protect, but that would require alot of work at this point. If anyone here knows how to fix this and would be willing to give us some advice on how to fix it or interested in being hired to do it for us, that would be great.
I currently have it set up as a protected page in the member’s area with direct urls to each pdf file on that page.
Thanks,
Cami
You can use eStore to provide encrypted “Download Now” buttons. Also, you would need to setup your robots.txt file along with other directory attributes; to prevent Google from crawling specific folders of your choice. This article will teach you how to do that:
