I wanted to give the user the ability to edit only his password and not any othe profile or extended profile items. I also do not want to display extended profile items to the user.

There is the ability to display or not display items for editing for the regular profile items. However, there is no ability to disable the extended profile items in the edit profile page.

Is there a way to disable the extended profile items only for the edit profile page?

A member can ONLY ever edit his/her profile data. For example: Member A cannot edit profile data of Member B.

Do you mean that you don’t want a member to be able to edit some of the his profile fields? Are you using any custom fields?

Currently, I as the admin or staff am registering members. I allow staff to register new members. I am using custom fields. Because we give them a password, I wanted to allow them to change their passwords.

You allow us to only display certain things of the profile in the page tab. However, the custom profile only allows us to enable or display the display of both registering/edit profile page.

Because I enable custom fields, they show up regardless. I don’t want these custom fields to show up on the edit profile page.

okay, I think you are trying to make fields that are viewable by admin only.

The following addon has the capability to create edit profile forms so certain feilds are only visible to admin:

    No that is not correct.

What I actually wanted to do was allow clients to change their password and to only see the change password and name in their edit profile page. The problem is that I have custom fields. Although I turned off all fields from displaying in the edit profile page,(you have the ability to enable and disable fields in the form as well as edit profile form), the custom fields always show up and their is no way to disable displaying the custom fields other than to disable all custom fields.

You only give the ability to ‘reset’ the password or edit the password in the edit profile page. REseting the password will give a difficult password to remember or noncustomizable password.

Using the edit profile page allows the user to change their password to a custom password….WIth this custom field issue, a custom password ability is unavailable .. in my case.

I don’t want the custom fields to show up in the edit profile page.

This is how a password reset works (this is a very standard procedure for websites offering member/user accounts):

    1) Someone clicks the password reset link

    2) You enter your email address.

    3) The plugin will reset the password with a random one and send it to the user via email. This will ensure that the correct account holder (who has access to that email) only receives the password.

    4) The user then check the email to get the password. Enter it in the login form to log into the site (they can copy and paste it from the email).

    5) The user can change the password to something you like by going to the edit profile page. You (the site admin) can customize the “password reset” email and offer more guidance as to what to do.

Custom fields are quite tricky to handle because everyone has different kind of requirement. The standard form field options are explained in our documentation here:

    https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/wordpress-membership/how-to-customize-which-fields-appear-in-the-registration-and-edit-profile-page-221

If you need more advanced stuff (what you explained falls under this category) then the following addon should help:

These are the only options we have unfortunately.
