    Hi,

One of the custom fields we have asks members for their name in Chinese characters. When we export the member list and open the CSV the names are an unrecognizable string of special symbols. All the other English fields are just fine. How can we preserve the characters when exporting?

(Thanks for adding the custom fields to the export by the way)

    Alan

Hi Alan, What version of eMember are you using?

Can you please give one example of a chinese name that I can copy and test in my system?

I just updated to v8.8.3. Here is my Chinese name: 裴爱伦

I’ve only tested this myself with a Mac opening the CSV file… if that makes a difference.

    Thanks, Alan

So, my last post got me thinking, and I opened the CSV with textedit on the Mac instead of Excel. The characters appear fine in textedit. Perhaps this is an Excel issue?

Thanks wzp. Those didn’t actually help, but this discussion seems to indicate others have this problem too:

Have you tried this with LibreCalc?

I’m not familiar with LibreOffice. Looks interesting. The CSV does open fine in Google Drive as a spreadsheet. That will work. Thanks for all the help!
