eMember – Download Folder Protection not working

Hi guys, I’ve been using the WP eMember for about a month now and it seems to have been working well on my end. I’ve been using the Download Folder Protection and it works like a charm.

However, recently (or just today), I noticed even though I was logged in via WP eMember and WordPress (I did auto-log in for wordpress to wpemember), the file required a username and password. Upon typing the username and password, it doesn’t recognize and keeps asking me over and over again (even though logged-in).

The only difference I did today was update the following plugins:

– Contact Form 7

– Digg Digg

– nrelate Related Content

Can you let me know what seems to have caused this? Thank you very much!

Hi, keep all the plugins deactivated first (except eMember). Now check to see if it is working as expected. If it is you know that there is a conflicting plugin. So start activating one plugin at a time until you see this issue again (that’s the easiest way to find the conflicting plugin). This post has more explanation:

Hello, I’m trying to use the Download Folder Protection feature. I placed the file in the folder and when I click the button to trigger the download, it asks me for my credentials (I’m not logged in with any account on the website), I put them but instead of downloading the file, the site continuously ask for the credentials. You do mention the .htaccess feature in your tutorial. Can you provide me with some additional info?

Are you entering the credentials of a valid eMember user?

Yes, i registered a new user and tried to access the file, and after i inserted the credentials it keeps asking for it. I am sure that they are right because if i login it accepts them.

Please click the blue “Update” button on the Download Folder Protection page.

I clicked it but the situation continues, are you sure it’s not related with the “Note: The download folder protection feature requires .htaccess feature to work correctly on your webserver.” that you have on your tutorial?

Was an .htaccess file created in the download folder?

Yes, when i access the FTP and go to the directory, the file is there, the content is:

AuthUserFile /home/content/p3pnexwpnas07_data02/90/2509390/html/wp-content/uploads/emember/downloads/.htpasswd

AuthName “eMember Protected Folder”

AuthType Basic

Looks like you have some kind of a customize login form. I need to see emember’s standard login page.

Give me the URL of the page where you have the following login shortcode:

I have the shortcode in two locations:

and in the header, linked to the login button

The download worked fine for me (Do exactly the following to test it):

1) I went to the following page and logged in using the standard eMember login:

[http://babysleepmadesimple.com/?page_id=12924]

2) Clicked on the blue download button.

3) Entered the username and password then it downloaded the file.
