eMember – delete email for deceased member

I need to be able to delete the email address for deceased members (and change membership state to Deceased and status to inactive). eMember complains that there is already a member with an email “” (ie blank email). Can eMember be modified so that inactive members can have a blank email please. We need to retain the member in the database for historical purposes.

How about manually changing their email addresses from “person@gmail.com” to “person@gmail.com.dead” instead of trying to blank them out?
