Hi Guys, I have the exact issue as this post > https://support.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forums/topic/how-to-customize-emember-registration-form/page/2
I’ve renamed the “last name filed in the eng.php to what i want it to read ” AFO User name ( Optional ) But its seems to be stuck as required field- I don’t want to remove this field but only want as optional.
No ticks in any of the boxes in forms settings pages.
Could you advise how I can fix this ?
Thanks
December 22, 2012 at 11:40 pm #52592adminKeymasterWhat version of the plugin are you using?
There is a checkbox in the pages/forms settings menu of the plugin where you can uncheck a checkbox to make the field “not required” (btw, The default behavior should be “not required” so you had to change it in the first place to make it required). So check the field in the “registration forms” section and verify that it is unchecked.
Also, post a link to your registration page.
December 23, 2012 at 12:34 am #52593jerrycMemberThose checkboxes didn’t seem to work for me on the 3 field free member form, even with the latest update. I will admit, however, I didn’t spend a long time on it after I got the update, but I didn’t notice any difference with it. Those checkboxes only seem to work for the main registration form, not the quickie one for free membership signup. That’s my experience.
It looks like I’m not the only one with this problem, except I’d like to remove the last name field completely and replace it with nothing.

December 24, 2012 at 11:22 pm #52595adminKeymaster@Bulmember, You should only need to update the plugin. We have added the option to remove the “First name” and “last name” fields from the email confirmation initiation form that you see on the registration page when using the “Free Members Must Confirm Email Address” feature. I tried to jump on your site to check it but the login didn’t work. I replied to your email.
Update: Your registration page was in draft mode. Also the page URL was incorrectly specified in the settings. I have corrected that and updated your site and it is working the way it should.
December 27, 2012 at 10:21 pm #52596nurMemberThe feature is added and working perfectly in our testing system. If it is not working as expected on your site we can organize access to the site and look into it.
December 28, 2012 at 1:01 am #52597jerrycMemberThanks, Nur. My site isn’t public yet. If you could just tell me where the checkboxes are to configure this feature, I’ll try it again. I couldn’t find them. (My new website is a part time project for me, and I don’t get to work on it every day.)
I also want to say I love the customer service attitude of your company. Besides all the help you give in this forum, I have gotten some amazing help in my email box, way, way beyond what I could have ever expected. It may seem like I need a lot of help, and maybe I expected too much of your software, but I looked at them all, and they all have shortcomings. Nonetheless, yours is, by far the best, and I was clear about that when I bought it, even before I got such wonderful service. You folks rock. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Blessings for a Merry Christmas season and a great 2013.
Jerry
December 28, 2012 at 3:54 am #52598nurMemberThanks Jerry.
have you looked at “Settings->Pages/Forms Settings” page in the emember admin panel? there is a section called “Registration Form Fields”. All the fields you possibly see in the registration forms, are there. checking the first checkbox will make the corresponding field shown on the form (keeping second checkbox unchecked makes it optional ) and checking both first and second checkboxes makes it required.
Let me know if this helps.
December 28, 2012 at 4:01 am #52599jerrycMemberNo. That didn’t change anything. Those fields seem to apply to the major registration form, not the free one that only has 3 fields.
Also, while I don’t want the last name field on the easy free registration page (where all 3 fields are required) I still want it optional on the main registration form.
December 28, 2012 at 5:13 am #52600nurMemberI don’t think you have the latest version.
if settings change reflects on main registration form then it must reflect on the free registration form. this is how it behaves in the latest version. please request for the latest version and make sure you got a different version.
December 28, 2012 at 5:30 am #52601jerrycMemberThanks. It works with the latest version.
Is there an easy way to show on the free registration page that a field is optional? They used to all be required, and I like that they aren’t now, but it doesn’t tell the user that they are optional.
December 28, 2012 at 6:38 am #52602nurMemberrelated html code is in eMember_registration_utils.php (line 173 to line 178). you can add text there.
December 28, 2012 at 6:45 pm #52603jerrycMemberThat should work. Thanks.
