Hey all,
After reading as many posts as I can find on building a monthly membership model, I’m still a bit confused. Let me tell you what I’m looking for and questions that I have.
1. When someone subscribes in July 2012, then they get access to the july 2012 content ONLY.
2. When August 2012 rolls around, I want to rebill them and then they will have access to july and august.
3. This cycle continues to repeat.
4. If the person cancels, then they continue to get access to the month’s they’ve paid for.
What I’m wondering is, do I have to create a new product in estore for every month’s subscription, or can I reuse the one product, just altering the member number for the the product?
Next, is it possible to fix the renew dates to the 1st of the month? In other words, if someone subscribes sometime in the month, then they will get billed on the first the next month. If not, it’s not a big deal, I would just have to be sure that the billing and renewals match up.
So, I have read as much as I could find, and I am still confused in a few areas.
Thanks!
Frank
June 26, 2012 at 8:55 am #46470adminKeymasterAre you planning to use a one time buy option for each month or a recurring payment?
June 26, 2012 at 2:40 pm #46471FrankMemberRe-occurring payment. Much like the old fashion magazine subscription model.

The closest thing that could be done was with once off purchase option for each month. So each month will represent a membership level and if you use the multiple membership level per user feature then a member can have as many levels as he wants and have access to all that content.
The only other option I can think of is to use something like the one explained at the following post (its not exactly what you are after though):
June 27, 2012 at 4:20 am #46473FrankMemberWell that other post was my starting point. If I used it would I create a new product every month and then auto upgrade each membership. Any thoughts of making the member plugin work month by month?

June 27, 2012 at 11:09 pm #46474adminKeymasterNo, you do not need to create new products every month. The product that represents the membership payment is always for the current month (you can change the reference text value of the product to reflect the current months membership if needed). Your members will always signup to your current month so you only ever need one payment button for that level.
The trick is to file your content under a different month (using a different level) when the current month rolls over. This makes it to any new comers can’t see the old content anymore as he only has access to that month’s content.
I have been thinking of adding another protection mechanism which lets the member see posts or pages that are created after the join date only which maybe a better option for this type of setup.
