Hi
I have a recurring problem where emails from the estore with license information goes to spam in the recipients inbox. I have followed everything in the FAQ here concerning that but there has been no resolution. All email testing systems out on the internet report everything is fine with my emails.
So I embarked on a steep learning curve dealing with SPF, DMARK and DKIM records to make sure all is well in the email system I am using. I have now determined that the error I get when sending email concern SPF alignment and “policy” failures. At this point, I really do not know what to do here. Here is my system:
I have a domain, va2fsq.com and I use mail.va2fsq.com. These are on a HostGator system.
However I have two subdomains, icom.vas2fsq.com and yaesu.va2fsq.com. These two subdomains do not have any dkim dns records. So the first question is, is this necessary? Each subdomain uses mail.va2fsq.com for email.I suspect that something else is happening behind the scenes at HostGator so I may not be able to resolve this.
Based on comments here and other sources I have heard that using an SMTP plugin can resolve all of this, however I have a number of questions concerning this.
1) Which smtp server do I configure in the plugin? Do I use mail.va2fsq.com?
2) What changes are necessary in the eStore to accommodate this? In the eStore settings, email, there is the first box which says “Use wordpress mailing system”. Do I leave this enabled? Now If I cannot resolve any of this, then I would choose to use a completely different email address, one I use personally that never has an issue delivering email. How would I do that? Do I use that email address in the email settings and then configure the SMTP plugin to use it? Do I still use the “Use wordpress mailing system”?
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Easy WP SMTP – WordPress SMTP and Email Logs: Gmail, Office 365, Outlook, Custom SMTP, and more
January 4, 2022 at 5:16 pm #84043tomb18SpectatorI’ve tried this out previously and it didn’t work. Mainly because there is no documentation about using eStore with an SMTP plugin.
So I ask the questions again (you are the support channel right?)Based on comments here and other sources I have heard that using an SMTP plugin can resolve all of this, however I have a number of questions concerning this.
1) Which smtp server do I configure in the plugin? Do I use mail.va2fsq.com?
2) What changes are necessary in the eStore to accommodate this? In the eStore settings, email, there is the first box which says “Use wordpress mailing system”. Do I leave this enabled? What if I want to use a completely different email system? My personal one.
I need answers to each of these questions please.
TomJanuary 4, 2022 at 10:50 pm #84044adminKeymasterThe first thing to understand is the following so you know where the real source of the issue is and who to ask for so you can get SMTP details for your server:
1) The email issue is related to your mail server which is configured and managed by your hosting provider.
2) Any WordPress plugin (including WP eStore), simply uses the mail function of your server to execute the email sending functionality.
3) Your hosting provider is the only one who can give you the information needed to setup SMTP for your site. You can ask them for the SMTP details and then plug those values into the SMTP plugin so the emails sent from your site are sent via SMTP (that improves the reliability of email sending and delivery).
4) WP eStore doesn’t need any SMTP configuration. You configure SMTP for your WordPress site and your server and then all the emails from that site will go via SMTP.
Fully read the following page which can provide a good understanding of why the email issue happens:
January 7, 2022 at 4:32 pm #84052tomb18SpectatorHi
I downloaded, installed and setup EasyWP SMTP. I sent a test message with no issues.
However, I then attempted to purchase a product. This works fine without the SMPT (although will go into spam at times) but with it, PayPal reports “Things don’t appear to be working at the moment”
There are no logs generated in eStore either.
Like I said, what needs to be done in the eStore or my WP site?
Turning SMTP off and all is well.
TomJanuary 7, 2022 at 5:37 pm #84053wzpModeratorWhether or not, an email goes into a recipient’s spam folder is not under the control of eStore, or WordPress. However, if your email message “sounds spammy,” or you are using a blacklisted domain; the receiving email system may decide your message is spam.
So, what does your email message template say???
January 8, 2022 at 10:43 pm #84060adminKeymasterThe emails going to spam and the following are completely two separate items:
PayPal reports “Things don’t appear to be working at the moment”
The email issue has nothing to do with WP eStore (as explained above). The PayPal reporting an error will be related to amount value or other configuration value that you entered incorrectly somewhere. Create a separate topic for this and post the URL where we can go and see the error. Then we will be able to investigate the values being used and what is causing the PayPal error.
January 11, 2022 at 11:13 am #84070tomb18SpectatorWell, finally this is resolved.
I understand that the eSTore plugin has nothing to do with the SMTP or wordpress mailing system. At least not directly…read later.
I spent the last three days working with Google setting up a google email account using my domain with my easy WP SMTP plugin.
All of the SMTP emails were blocked by the SMTP gmail server.
4 Google techs, countless updates to MX records and SPF records, yet they were always blocked.
The solution?
The default email Subject (I think this is default with eStore?) Notification of Product Sale was rejected by the gmail SMTP server as spam.
It took google escalating this to a second level tech.
TomJanuary 12, 2022 at 5:16 am #84072adminKeymasterThere maybe a mix of conditions (for example: the “From Email Address”) contributing to this also. I personally use that exact same “Email Subject” and the deliveries work fine. Anyone who purchase from TTHQ site also gets delivery with that email subject which works. So I don’t think it is just based on the “subject” line.
Good to see that you got it sorted out for your site.
