I have a drip feed that works great for a membership that requires an opt-in confirmation. The problem, the drip “date counter” begins the day they register, not the day they confirm. So, if they don’t confirm for 30 days, they get all the content at once when they do confirm.
Can the drip schedule be based on the confirmation date instead?
I considered manually editing each user’s “subscription start date” but that can’t be done because the username has not been established until they confirm (doesn’t allow a save).
Also considered editing the dates in the actual database (cpanel) but that seems messy (and manual).
Suggestions?
May 13, 2013 at 7:57 am #55543adminKeymasterIs this for paid membership or free membership?
May 13, 2013 at 12:34 pm #55544jzalmanMemberIt is a free membership
May 14, 2013 at 2:40 am #55545adminKeymasterI think the best way to handle this would be to introduce a new settings option in the “Auto Upgrade” section so the “subscription start” date is set to the date the member completes the registration. Do you think that will work for your scenario?
May 14, 2013 at 5:57 am #55546jzalmanMemberThat would be a great addition to the flexibility of an already great product. Currently, I’m using Aweber to drip an ‘announcement’ that new content is available (which corresponds to the drip timing of the eMember auto-upgrade).
Because of time-of-day issues, I have Aweber send the ‘notice of new content’ one day after the auto-upgrade is scheduled (so clients don’t arrive and have the content not available yet). Running pretty smooth… except when clients don’t confirm in a timely fashion. Then they get all the content at once, they are overwhelmed and don’t participate.
Your solution sounds great.

May 15, 2013 at 12:44 am #55547adminKeymasterI did some digging and it looks like I misunderstood your question. eMember already sets the subscription start date to the date the user completes the registration. The issue you explained has to do with the autoresponder confirmation (I thought you meant eMember’s registration confirmation).
The subscription start date needs to be set to the date a user registers on the site (otherwise a whole bunch of other date calculation will be wrong).
I would recommend the following which might help:
Add a message in your registration confirmation email that asks your members to confirm the opt-in confirmation. If you put emphasis on this action in your email it is likely the users will act on it better.
May 15, 2013 at 11:21 am #55548jzalmanMemberThat puts me back to the original problem. Yes, I mean eMember’s registration confirmation. If they don’t confirm, the auto-upgrade starts the clock from the time they first register, not after they confirm.
Forget that I mentioned aWeber, it has nothing to do with the problem. If they don’t respond to aWeber, they just won’t get the reminders that their acct has new content.
The email telling them to confirm is already very straightforward, some just don’t do it.
Thx.
May 16, 2013 at 12:29 am #55549adminKeymasterOkay in that case I need to take a look at your site. I am pretty sure the “subscription start date” is set to the date the member confirms/completes the registration. It looks like this is not happening on your site so I will take a look and see what is going on.
January 5, 2015 at 4:43 pm #55550MathijsSpectatorI have the same issue. Is there a solution?
January 6, 2015 at 1:00 am #55551adminKeymasterPlease explain the exact issue that you are facing so I know what to investigate on your site. What version of eMember are you using?
January 7, 2015 at 7:11 am #55552MathijsSpectatorMembership drip feed based on confirmation date, not join date
eMember version: v8.9.4
When I sell a membership people get a registration link. I sold a membership level 1. Every day the membership leven during 7 days is autoupgraded. So day 2 is level 2, day 3 level 3, etc.
My customer bought on monday and registered himself on tuesday. He started directly on day 2 insteady of day 1. My other customer who bought the same product on monday, registered monday and started day 1.
When my customer registers himself. That is the moment i want to start level 1.

January 12, 2015 at 12:48 am #55554markp224MemberI am using eMember version 8.9.3 with no modifications. I want to drip content on a paid membership site. The drip content is “Premium” and has new content for 18 weeks. I added the days (7, 14, 21, etc.) as explained in the tutorial but decided I wanted to test it before release. For the test, this is what I set up. Member purchases “Platinum level” membership. (I made this membership level before I realized how to set the drip.) I set the day as zero “0” to be upgraded to “Platinum week 1” and “Platinum week 2” to give them a start on the content. I then set “platinum week 3” to auto=upgrade on day 3. Then set “platinum week 4” to auto-upgrade on day 4. I followed the same steps through 10 days for the test. A week later I came back (test member should be able to access “platinum week 7” content but not week 8 content. The only content the test member can access is “Platinum week 1”. Test member cannot even access “week 2” content which was also set at “day 0”. What is wrong? Why is eMember not “auto-upgrading”? I’m hoping to go live within the next couple of weeks and want to make sure it works properly first. Thanks

January 12, 2015 at 5:12 am #55555RobertParticipantI’d like to tag on to this thread as well…if this question doesn’t pertain let me know and I’ll ask it in a new thread.
Basically, I need to know when an auto upgrade happens. I have my WordPress site to my timezone (LA). And I need to drip content out for 12 weeks, one a week. I have set up 12 membership levels with each membership level autoupgrading every 7 days (7,14,21,28, etc.).
When I check the last access on a member, it shows the time in UTC time, and not my timezone. Since there is a 7 hour difference, I need the auto upgrade to occur at 12:00 am my time zone, not 12:00 am on UTC time zone.
Can you tell me how the auto upgrade works as far as timing?
I also would like to be kept up to date on the current thread of auto upgrading working properly (also on version 8.9.3).
Thanks.

We can’t precisely say at what time an auto-upgrade will occur; because the “ticks” used in the WordPress crontab mechanism are dependent upon how often your site is visited. Therefore, auto-upgrades and account expirations can only be timed to the nearest day; assuming that your site gets a minimum of one visitor a day.

Function Reference/wp schedule event
Schedules a hook which will be executed by the WordPress actions core on a specific interval, specified by you. The action will trigger when someone visits your WordPress site, if the scheduled time has passed.
