I have a protected page with “download now” links set so members can log in a re-download their files.
I located the “download now” shortcode in this forum, and installed that after receiving”file expired” errors with the Admin-generated links.
However, I an now getting “file not found” errors.
I’ve done these steps:
1. Checked the URL listed in the product and tested it by downloading it directly from the browser. Works fine.
2. Double-checked that my product ID is correct. It is…
3. Uploaded an update to the plug in I received in just the last week, so I assume it’s the most current version. Still doesn’t work.
4. Removed the “htaccess” and “htpasswrd” files from the “downloads” directory in the plugin directory (although I have my downloads located elsewhere).
Still no joy.
What else can I do?
Thanks!

April 14, 2010 at 11:50 pm #19715IvyMemberHi Gary, Are there spaces in the download link? or are there any non alpha or numeric characters other then (-) or (_)?
If there are please remove the spaces or non alphanumeric characters and retest the encrypted link.
Please let me know how it goes.
Cheers,
Ivy

“My Awesome Digital Product.zip”
Now the above is a valid file name on your personal computer but when uploaded to the server the url becomes like the following:
http://www.your-domain.com/My Awesome Digital Product.zip
Spaces in the URL is not valid. For example the following is a valid URL:
http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com
whereas the following is not:
http://www.tips and tricks hq.com
I hope that makes sense. Why does the file download when I use it in the browser? browsers are smart these days so it knows what to do but when eStore tries to read the file (which is written in PHP language) it obviously can’t.
April 15, 2010 at 1:10 pm #19717GraphicBassMemberHi,
Yes, the URL has no embedded spaces. I habitually use hyphens when I need separation, but I did verify.
I usually do not use “www” in my URLs, as my host can parse with or without. I added the “www” but no luck.
This is the shortcode I am using…
[wp_eStore_download_now_button id=17]
The ID is good.
Noting the blank space in the shortcode, I tried using it with an underscore, but this breaks the shortcode.
I moved a few files into the plugins “download” directory to try that, but it generated an “invalid product request” error.
Ideas?

April 26, 2010 at 7:49 am #19723amin007ParticipantCan you please check that you are not doing any of the steps mentioned here:
Downloaded file size is 0 (Zero) byte or 404 error or Other file download error
Sometimes those could lead to “File Not Found” error too.
April 26, 2010 at 1:09 pm #19724paultonyMemberHi again amin007 ,
Ok, I have got the links to work by deleting the .htpasswd and .htaccess, but now how do I get the same type of security without those two files? I would prefer to have them existing. What do you suggest?

April 30, 2010 at 9:16 pm #19728ladyshamMemberOh – And my plugin doesn’t have the htaccess and htpassword files in it. It’s Version 2.0. I have requested the latest for upgrade purposes.
