    I would say 50% of the people who buy my info products email me saying the download link isn’t working.

    Sometimes I click on their link and it works fine for me.

    Lately though it’s been getting worse and worse.

    One person said when they clicked on the link it went to a page that said “corrupt”

    One person said this…”When I click on the link it opens a new page with about:blank. Then it says I must give approval to download and I right click and approve of the download. Then it connects and here is the address it goes to:

    [https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&view=js&name=main,tlist&ver=Gtpn3zMLe3U.en.&am=!deiRS4JeOm9VJL3 uu6i3QiQw9cFEsyonbf8e7LCh8HJC_Zv6EDySNPnPKJMXutk]

    And the displayed page only has Copyright 2002-2011 Google Inc. on the page.

    It’s a blank page and it is stuck on the internet site address I copied above.”

    One person said, “Is this a scam, I cannot open the file as it keeps coming up that the file is invalid or corrupted. I would therefore like a refund please unless you can send me the correct download for this item.”

    It’s all sorts of browsers and all sorts of email clients.

    Is there a setting on my end that could be the problem? Is it the estore plugin itself?

    I’m using v 5.9.2

    I’m using HostMonster

    If they are clicking the link from within gmail, gmail is known to sometime garble the links; along with some other web based mail clients. The only solution for that is for them to copy the link and paste it into their browser’s address bar.

    all of the error messages you described are not generated by eStore. They appear to be the result of the browser trying to load links that have been garbled by the buyer’s email client.

    Update: This option has been added to the WP eStore plugin settings. So you can enable it from there.

    I would add something like the following to the email that goes out to your buyers:

    If you are having an issue downloading the item please copy and paste the link in the browser’s address bar

    Also, try the following:

    1. Open the “eStore_advanced_configs.php” file and search for the following line of code:

    define('WP_ESTORE_AUTO_SHORTEN_DOWNLOAD_LINKS', false);

    2. Once you find it change it to the following:

    define('WP_ESTORE_AUTO_SHORTEN_DOWNLOAD_LINKS', true);

    This will use Google’s URL shortenter to shorten the encrypted link which your customers might find a little easier to handle.

    Thank you for this advice. I’m going to implement both ideas right now.

    I had another sale this week where they couldn’t get the link to work.

    I’ll let you know how it goes.

    Got another sale today in which the link didn’t work for the customer. They clicked on it and received an error.

    They even copy and pasted the link into their browser window and it still didn’t work.

    She copy and pasted the download link into both explorer and firefox and she said it didn’t work.

    When you say “it didn’t work,” what exactly was the result? Did the browser even go to your site, or did it go there and then fail? I know it may not seem like an important difference, but it helps us better pinpoint what the particular issue might be.

    Hello, I am looking for the location of the “eStore_advanced_configs.php”.

    I want to edit it while I wait for my update to be sent. It would be nice of this was an option in the plug-in itself.

    Download the latest version, and it’s in the main plugin directory…
