The encrypted download links, both in email and when generated manually do not work. I get the message
Firefox can’t find the file at http://www.effortless-sleep.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-cart-for-digital-products/download.php?file=2xOa/CgEV/SVhKvr.
Check the file name for capitalisation or other typing errors.
Check to see if the file was moved, renamed or deleted.
The URL entered in the product details works fine when pasted into a browser. The funny thing is that I have two sites, both wordpress, both on the same server, both running WP-estore and both with the same settings. Both are accessing the same folder which contains the downloadable products. But on one site, the encrypted links work fine and on the other they seem to have simply stopped working.
I have been all through this forum and seen this problem again and again. I have tried every piece of advice I can understand and nothing is working. The only thing I haven’t tried is changing the ‘php safe mode’, whatever that is. but the fact that one of my sites on the same server is working fine makes me think that isn’t the problem.
The debug log file says this (I have not posted the actual file names for security reasons)
[01/25/2012 2:53 PM] – Status : Unresolved DL file path = http://www.effortless-sleep.com/
[01/25/2012 2:53 PM] – Status : Resolved DL file path = ../../../
[01/25/2012 2:53 PM] – Status : Dispatching DL method = 1
Ready to throw this program out and start again. Please someone help
January 26, 2012 at 12:30 am #41170wzpModeratorAre you saying that copying the link into the address bar works, but clicking it does not?
January 26, 2012 at 8:25 am #41171SashumsMemberNo, I am saying that the actual URL is correct when you click on it or paste into a browser, but the encrypted link does not work either in an email or when generated manually using the admin settings
Thanks
January 26, 2012 at 12:45 pm #41172adminKeymasterPlease go through this check list and report back:

January 26, 2012 at 3:40 pm #41173SashumsMemberOk, Thanks. I found the problem. It was two plugins which were causing the links not to work. These were:
WP Compressor – automatic compression assumes the data output and boosts the performance of the blog pages.
WP Minify – This plugin uses the Minify engine to combine and compress JS and CSS files to improve page load time.
My caching plugin did not cause a problem.
Is there a way that I can make these plugins work with WP estore? Or are there any similar ones that will work? These two plugins have really massively improved my page loading time, which had been very poor. It will be a shame to just get rid of both of them to make the WP estore work
Thanks
January 27, 2012 at 1:30 am #41174wzpModeratorYou could try hosting the files on Amazon S3, which will make buyers happy because of the faster download speed…
January 27, 2012 at 5:53 am #41175adminKeymasterWP Minify shouldn’t cause any issue but the description of the “WP Compressor” sounds like it could be the source of the issue (if its doing gzip compression when eStore is steaming the data it will have issues). If you are using a caching plugin then why are you using this plugin?
January 27, 2012 at 6:55 am #41176SashumsMemberThese were all recommended to me in order to speed up the loading time of my website. The loading time has decreased massively since using these plugins.
Is there something better that I can do? I am not very technically minded and so the solution needs to be easy.
January 28, 2012 at 3:59 am #41177adminKeymasterTo speed up your site all you need to do is use one of the reputable caching plugin such as W3 Total Cache or WP Super Cache plugin. These plugins do pretty much everything the other plugins do. W3 Total cache can minify and do gzip compression at the same time. Our plugin also works with these plugins. Just remember, you only need to minify your content or do gzip compresson once (just having multiple plugins that do the same thing won’t minify them more… they might even cause problems).
January 28, 2012 at 5:20 pm #41178SashumsMemberOk, thanks. That is helpful
January 30, 2012 at 8:04 am #41179DFranzwaMemberAlong the same lines, except:
[WP eStore Settings v 6.3.7
http://stickfiguresclipart.com/
download size = 642 kb
I can dl an encrypted link created through admin functions, but the REAL url results in page not found.
Is it just me, or is that weird?
Everything was working just fine until a couple days ago. I had upgraded to WP eStore Settings v 6.3.7 and fought with the “addon settings”. Through trial and error (because I have no clue what ANY of the options mean) I settled on Automatic URL conversion “Default”, and “Download method 6”. That seemed to get everything working until yesterday.
I had a purchase of 10 files, all of which were downloaded except 1. I checked URL validity (spelling), everything checked out, but neither the real URL or the encrypted worked. So I started tinkering with the addon options again.
I killed the htaccess and htpasswords files and went back to the “default” settings. Now, SOME of the real urls work, and ALL of the encrypted links I tried work. Not enough of both to make me comfortable, but…
Any words of wisdom?
Dave
PS – btw – the 1 file purchased that wasn’t downloaded WAS a typo, but that doesn’t change the fact that something isn’t quite right. Logs were no help, they only told me about the bad url. I’m still not able to download from a real url, only encrypted.
January 30, 2012 at 12:35 pm #41180wzpModeratorWhen you say “real URL” do you mean the unencrypted product URL that points to the actual file?
February 1, 2012 at 2:35 am #41181DFranzwaMemberSorry, yes. The unencrypted link does not work. The encrypted link does.
February 1, 2012 at 5:16 am #41182adminKeymasterWP eStore has nothing do with the direct links not working on your site (it only deals with the encrypted links that it creates). Most likely something on your hosting provider changed which is causing this. Please contact your hosting provider and they should be able to sort it out.
February 1, 2012 at 6:02 am #41183DFranzwaMemberThanks. They’re working now.
Provider must have been monkeying around at the same time I was pulling my hair out;-)
