Download Button changes Available Copies

I have a downloadable item that I have added to the inventory. The “downloadable content” has been checked and a URL has been entered.

I have navigated to the inventory control and changed the available copies to 15.

Now what I thought happens is that when the product is added to cart and bought, the customer gets a download link + serial and the “available copies” will decrease by 1. And thats what I want to happen.

But what I have found is when I use: [wp_eStore_fancy_display id=1 type=4 style=1 show_price=0]

Which displays the product with a download button, which I have done to allow a “free software download link”, since the software cant be used until a serial is entered.

When clicking the download button, the “copies available” decreases by 1? And I definitely dont want it to be doing that! Needs to be purchased before that happens!

Is that meant to happen? I guess if its limiting the actual “product” quantity then its correct but I thought it only decreased with purchases? Is there a better way of implementing the download button to prevent the quantity decreasing?

I think I have a solution to this though, I can add the item again with unlimited copies and use only this product on the download page and the “quantity limited” copy on the purchase page. Hopefully that works fine.

If I understood you correctly, the download itself doesn’t really need to have an inventory quantity associated with it. Just sell the serial numbers as their own product, with their own inventory quantity.

Ah ok I see what you are saying. Iv split it into two items.. One that can actually be bought that contains the serial and the other one has the unlimited copies for the free download of the software.

Still weird that the quantity decreases with each download.. but when reading through all the documents it says that it will only decrease after purchases.

Problem sorted anyways.

When you use a “Download Now” type button, it will decrease the inventory when used. Otherwise you would never be able to offer a limited free download (for example: you want to give away 50 free downloads).
