Hi, I have been getting a lot of traffic to my site and this has been causing server overload. One of the things that I have been advised to do is to disable wp-cron and set up a cron job via my cpanel to run every few hours.
Before I do this, I just wanted to check that your plugins are not dependent on wp-cron as I use a few of your plugins. The plugins that I use are:
eStore
all in one wp security
Extra Shortcodes
Receipt creator
Download stats
Browse by category
I have also bought but have not installed yet:
the affiliate plugin
eMember
Sorry to be a pain but I would rather avoid any problem before I create it.
February 4, 2015 at 10:50 pm #68419wzpModeratorWell now, eMember needs it so that expiration reminders, account expiration and auto upgrades work. It only runs ONCE a day (not all the time). So that definitely can’t be affecting this.
Security plugin uses it for scanning (you can turn off that feature and it won’t use it).
Other plugins do not use any cron job.
Really, I think you should get a better hosting provider maybe:
What kind of hosting do you have?
February 5, 2015 at 11:13 am #68420Carthage BuckleyMemberWZP, Thank you for your reply. I am using the blogger WordPress hosting package with Bluehost:
They are one of the recommended hosts in the article you provide. It is not actually them who recommended that I turn off wp-cron.
Just to clarify, I certainly was not suggesting that your plugins are the source of the issue. I just wanted to clarify that turning wp-cron off would not affect the use of your plugins.
As my use of emember would be on subdomains, I am thinking that I probably could turn off wp cron on my main site which gets all of the traffic.
February 5, 2015 at 2:37 pm #68421wzpModeratorBeware: If you have 5 subdomains, they are really running on one server; because they all share the same IP address.
Bottom line: Unless you have an IT background, following the latest layperson “advice dujour” will make it difficult for us to provide you with proper support, for our products.

The person that was recommending cited an article from inmotion hosting who are recommended on the article that you included earlier but I think you are right and a change of host is a more realistic solution.
I have started looking for a new host as there have been too many issues for me with Bluehost. If this issue persists with the new host, I will think about this option.
I appreciate your honest advice.
Many thanks
