Tagged: instant payment notification, PayPal
After setting up PDT, I received this email from Paypal:
“This email is to inform you that you have successfully enabled Payment Data Transfer.
PDT’s primary function is to display payment transaction details to buyers when they are redirected back to your site upon payment completion. However, there are cases, such as with pending transactions, where you won’t receive notification of all transactions. For this reason, PayPal strongly recommends that you also enable Instant Payment Notification (IPN).”
Instant Payment Notification (IPN) is PayPal’s message service that sends a notification when a transaction is affected. Once IPN is integrated, sellers can automate their back office so they don’t have to wait for payments to come in to trigger order fulfillment.
Is this necessary or recommended with WP-estore?
WP eStore already uses IPN (this is the primary method of delivering the digital links… see how you get an email after a purchase? that is done via IPN). The PDT is used as an additional option to display the links on the Thank You page.
