We use the plugin and variations on my client’s site – brodypro.com – but are having issues getting the digital and physical to work well. For instance, there are multiple products that they can purchase an eBook form or the actual hard copy of the book. But our eBooks are being charged shipping, too, once it gets to PayPal. I’m using the variation for digital but not sure how to not charge the shipping for the digital, but use profile based shipping on the physical product. I’ve looked through the shipping variations, but I’m not sure how that would apply to our situation. Forcing them to select they don’t need shipping through those variations feels like it could get messy.
Is it possible you have PayPal setup to use shipping profiles?
The following post should be very helpful for you:
Please read it fully and let me know if the suggestions there work for you.
It looks like I have PayPal already set up to allow 3rd party applications to control shipping. Is there any way to denote different weights within the digital product variation? That way I could add weight to only my physical product so it’s charged shipping, but then the digitals are 0.00?
Weight can’t be specified for a variation. You should try the following:
Break your digital variation part into a separate product. So you have TWO products for this item:
1) An eStore product for the digital download component (and any digital variations).
2) Another eStore product for the non-digital component.
Then you can control their shipping parameters.
Put the buy now or add to cart buttons for BOTH of thoes products on your landing page (one below another). Your customers can buy the version they want (by clicking on the appropriate purchase button)
