Hi,
My website has 3 different levels of membership: bronze, silver and gold. I have 3 different documents (for example .PDF books) that I want to protect, each different for each membership, ie: “bronze.pdf” for the bronze level membership, “silver.pdf” for the silver level membership, and so forth. I’ve copied these books to the “uploadsemember” folder per the instructions. How do I use WP eMember so that a bronze level member cannot use his username and password to download the silver or gold books?
Thanks!
September 22, 2013 at 7:24 pm #57870KeithMemberHello, You can protect specific folders (see here: https://support.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forums/topic/emember-protect-media-content-on-protected-page) and the files within it. Once a file is protected by using the download folder protection, you don’t need to apply a level specific protection. You just control which membership level can see the download link on the page that you put it on. For example, if you have a page where you want to have download links for gold members, then you simply need to protect that page for gold membership level. The members of other user’s won’t be able to see the content of the page.
You can also create a download button on a page that only specific levels can see. Otherwise is could say “upgrade” instead of download. You can also choose which file to be downloaded “on-the-fly” based on the subscription level.
You probably also want to prevent crawling and indexing of the folder. See here: http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/how-to-control-access-of-the-web-crawlers-or-web-robots-to-your-site-166
Hope that helps.
September 23, 2013 at 7:53 pm #57871gobigkahunaMemberThanks Keith. That helps a bit, but one thing it doesn’t prevent is if a “gold” member shares a link to file with a “bronze” member. Is there anyway to “hide” the URL of the downloaded file?
September 23, 2013 at 11:47 pm #57872adminKeymasterAre you using the eStore plugin by any chance?

No, I’m not.
September 28, 2013 at 2:22 am #57874adminKeymasterokay no problem. I was going to say that you can use the encrypted download now buttons of eStore to do something like that (the 3rd option from the following page):
