Hi guys
Had a very strange thing happen on a site I created recently for a client. A customer named ‘Tracy Brownlee’ put through an order, and made her purchase via Paypal (went through fine)- then received an email addressed to ‘Tracy Jane Solomon’. The email address is still correct, it’s just the name that’s not. That same name (the incorrect one) is in the eStore customer records as well.
My first thought was the possibility of an autofill on the form, which she didn’t notice, and I’m waiting to hear back on that. But wanted to find out whether you had encountered anything like this before?
Thanks!
The “Customer Name” and the “Customer PayPal Email” comes directly from the PayPal’s payment data (PayPal sends this data to the plugin after the payment via IPN).
The only way this would happen is if the customer has used that name in his/her PayPal account.
For example, a customer’s name is “Jon Doe” but if he uses “Bla Bla” in PayPal (I don’t know why he would do this) as his name then that’s the name that will appear. Basically, The plugin takes the information from PayPal so I would check what name is being used in PayPal first.
Hi, The name is taken directly from PayPal. This is most likely the name she has on her PayPal account (possibly a maiden name that was never changed). All the information eStore uses is the verified information from PayPal.
Hi guys. Thanks for the response. Turns out that the client logged in to a Paypal account that wasn’t hers, but which had the same email address (a work email address, and belonged to someone with the same first name before it was transferred to her). So that mystery is resolved!
