Good evening. In our e-store, we previously had set up the shipping price variation for US 4.95, Canada 9.95, and all others $19.95. We offered a coupon for $4.95 off to provide free shipping in the US when a customer purchased three or more items (and this would subsequently reduce the price of international shipping). Because this utilized the one coupon code allowed per order, we couldn’t offer other discounts/coupons. (Plus it took it off the price of each product which was confusing, instead of taking it off the subtotal)

Since then we have switched to $4.95 shipping per item with three items or more getting free shipping via the automatic coupon/discount setting, but at such, had to discontinue shipping internationally because there was no way to recoup the higher shipping costs.

Is there a way that you could make the shipping variation required (and add-on to the price) even with the free shipping code for quantity over selection still there…which would essential reduce the base price shipping to 0, but then having an option at checkout (shipping variation) Country|USA|Canada:9.95|Other:19.95? I set it up this way and it appears to work…up until hitting the “update” button and the shipping variation cost doesn’t add to the subtotal bc the free shipping code overrides it.

I searched the forum and a similar question was asked last year but it didn’t appear to be answered.

You can make the shipping variation required but when you apply a FREE SHIPPING coupon/discount then the expected behavior is that there will be no shipping cost for that transaction. I am not 100% sure as to why you would apply a free shipping coupon then want to charge shipping? Can you please explain to me your setup goal in terms of shipping cost and then I will try to see if there is another way to achieve that?

Instead of applying free shipping automatically, can’t you make a conditional free shipping discount coupon and only give it to your US customers? That way, only the US customers will apply the free shipping coupon and get free shipping, anyone else will checkout as normal without any discount or anything.
