I have several member levels, dripping content with the auto-upgrade feature. The only issue is, it can be confusing if a member with Level 1 access clicks on a post with Level 2 access and cant access the content – they could be clicking around looking for stuff which results in frustration and a unhappy customer!
Id like to completely hide posts from members who dont have the correct privilieges. Is there anyway to do this? Ive only found this page with lots of code on it https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/wordpress-membership/wp-emember-miscellaneous-tweaks-248
Not entirely sure how i;d do that.
Alternative would be to create categories that correspond to the member level, then create a page with links to the posts and hide the elements in the page using the shortcodes. Id rather have a cleaner ‘hide posts based on member levels’ option in the settings than duplicating categories.
The set of tweaks you referenced, would only work if you have at least 1 year of PHP programming experience, and requires that you modify your theme. Otherwise, the use of categories is strongly recommended.
Thanks – will consider hiring someone but may be able to combine downloads and streaming on one post using the hide content shortcodes.
Yep the shortcodes worked although, i was confused / frustrated by the fact some codes worked some didn’t, turned out, turning off ‘Do you want to protect this content? to ‘no’ worked.
I would suggest making a note of this in the documentation – you can only use one method outwright to protect in-post content.
There is a “note” section in the section protection documentation that mentions it:

ah missed that – stopped reading once I had the codes applicable to my set up.
